So...What Changed, Again?
Anyone who seriously thought that the Democrats were simply going to cave in, and work with the GOP when it comes to judicial nominees are fools. The same old tricks, the same old playbook, and even the same old plays are being dragged out for this coming fight. A couple new tricks are being thrown in, which I expect them to blow up in their faces. The meeting scheduled between the Democrat leadership and the president over these nominees might not go as they planned. The president—I have faith—will present his nominees; all of which the Democrats will turn their nose up at, unless it is Gonzales.
They like him. They like him because the litmus test they are going to put each nominee through will be their ideological beliefs regarding Roe v. Wade. With as much passion and fanaticism the Democrats have for their "sacrament" of abortion, makes me question whether "liberalism" should be classified as an ideology, or a religion.
And for all the GOP in the Senate that think that this will not be a fight, I suggest you read the following. It comes from the Drudge Report, and it spells out the primary—hell, the only—plan the Democrats have. (Fisking points are mine.)
Senate Judiciary Committee member Chuck Schumer got busy plotting away on the cellphone aboard a Washington, DC-New York Amtrak -- plotting Democrat strategy for the upcoming Supreme Court battle. Schumer promised a fight over whoever the President’s nominee was: "It's not about an individual judge… It's about how it affects the overall makeup of the court."
There you have it. The "overall makeup of the court." They are still pushing their bounds on those they want on the Court. They will accept a jurist like O’Connor, but they prefer to have another Ginsburg. Sen. Scmu...err, Schumer is not concerned with the all the qualifications of each jurist. He is more interested in the ideology they will reflect there. That means that the Democrats are looking for a new, liberal, activist judge to go to the Court. But we knew this already. Too bad the seven Republicans that sold out their party could not grasp that.
The chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee was overheard on a long cellphone conversation with an unknown political ally, and the DRUDGE REPORT was there!Schumer proudly declared: "We are contemplating how we are going to go to war over this." Schumer went on to say how hard it was to predict how a Supreme Court justice would turn out: "Even William Rehnquist is more moderate than they expected. The only ones that resulted how they predicted were [Antonin] Scalia and [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg. So most of the time they've gotten their picks wrong, and that's what we want to do to them again."
Senator, pray to God I never get into the Oval Office. I would make you weep, and your colleagues leap from the Capitol Dome over my choices for the judiciary. Do not worry. I am used to the slur "nazi" from the ideological Left.
Schumer later went on to mock the "Gang of 14" judicial filibuster deal and said it wasn’t relevant in the Supreme Court debate. "A Priscilla Owen or Janice Rogers Brown style appointment may not have been extraordinary to the appellate court but may be extraordinary to the Supreme Court."
Gee, would that be because they are originalists? Inquiring minds would like to know, Senator.
By the time the train hit New Jersey, Schumer shifted gears and called his friend and "Gang of 14" member, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. The two talked in a very friendly manner about doing an event sometime this week together.
May I be sick, now? But wait, earlier today, Graham expanded on the nominee situation on Sean Hannity’s show. The man is on record that if ideology is the reason behind any filibuster that he would abandon the deal, and side with Frist’s attempts to execute the Constitutional Option to end the unconstitutional filibusters on nominees.
And that needs to be pounded home. The Democrats are going to filibuster. They are going to do it on ideological grounds. They cannot attack the nominees directly. That might prove to be a mistake.
J. Michael Luttig: 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. His father was murdered, and he recused himself of the case involving his killer’s appeal. Go ahead; attack him.
Emilio Garza: 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. Former United States Marine Corps Captain. Go ahead; attack him.
These are just two examples of people that hold an honor higher than that of the Democrats that will attack them. Just remember this: They are only attacking them because the represent an ideology contrary to them, their beliefs, and their sacraments. They will fight what they do not believe, and will slander those that a far better than they are.

Bunny,
You may, indeed, be sick if you wish, but I know that you and Publius saw this coming. So did a number of other people. The "tone down the rhetoric" comment made by the president are directed towards people like you, and Publius, and the others I pointed to just a moment ago.
We're moving faster than they want, and people like the president feel threatened. We're upping the rhetoric on candidates he might present. So what? Let's get the vetting process out now, and let's see the Democrats mount an attack on a single nominee after they've spent so much time already ripping them up.
The more America hears the same talking points, they begin to switch the dial. The Media knows this. So, let's throw those names out now, and get the tantrums over with.
Alito, Garza, Luttig, Roberts, Jones, Estrada, etc., and the list goes on. These are the names tossed out now that the Democrats are repulsed by. Good. Just like a vampire to a cross, that's what I like to see. Let's keep that up.
This fight will be one for the hisotry books, to be sure, provided the Republicans have the spines to handle it. A couple of things are guaranteed through this fight.
It will be nasty.
It could be politically bloody.
The nominees will be attacked relentlessly.
It will be based solely on ideology.
The 14 will not switch sides unless something major occurs.
Lastly, The Republicans in the Senate will eventually cave in.

PS: Optimism is nice, but the world isn't vey optimistic right now in this realm.
Good blog and we are on the same page. I anticipate a bloody fight starting with the msm, the judiciary committee and on the senate floor. I anticipate one of the weapons will follow the Bolton documents are provided. Schumer will scream and yell for a litmus test. Hopefully the candidate will remain calm and resist his and other's baiting. I don't like the makeup of the committee with the Rino Specter chairing it and Graham and DeWine on the republican side and Durban on the other side. This is the beginning of defining what the court will be after the terrible recent decisions. I'm hoping for more like Scalia and Thomas with Scalia becoming the Chief Justice. Rawriter
