Moonbats On The Left, And Across The Dial

Brian Maloney, the Radio Equalizer, decided to take his sanity into his own hands yesterday, and on the way home, he switched the radio to his favorite beating post. That, of course, being Air America Radio. Now, Thomas and I rarely listen to them, mostly because they really have nothing to contribute. They lack the brains to mount a sensible, well-reasoned debate, and have all the balls to sound so nutty that the men in the white coats are still looking for them. The following is what Brian Maloney heard during the Randi Rhodes show.

"This President is never gonna do the right thing. I think somewhere deep down inside him he takes a lot of joy about losing people, if he thinks they vote Democrat or if he thinks they're poor, or if he thinks they're in a blue state, whatever his reasons are not to rescue those people who are (planning?) for their safety."

That is just asinine. The president feels only "joy" for the Democrats that died. PUHLEEZE! This president is not the troglodyte that the Air America buffoons are. But, that’s not all. These are little theories thrown out by Randi’s listeners. Some of these comments remind me of the moonbats from DailyKos and the various chat rooms that I used to frequent. And I am still waiting to see if Air America will go the route that Jack Shafer took in bringing up race and class in this disaster. Nevermind that these are Americans. Now we have to dictate rescue efforts by race and class. Lord people, get a brain already.

--- That Bush waited too long to tour the damaged region,

This is the most oft-heard statement from the Left, and it is the most retarded. As I stated last night in my post that just ripped Jack Cafferty and his rant to pieces, it is stupid to bring this point up. With the chaos on the ground, there is no way the Secret Service would allow him to go down in the initial hours and days after the disaster. He is in Mobile, Alabama today, and I do not like that. A presidential visit is not an easy thing to deal with, and the added security would only be getting in the way.

--- That he'll need to bomb Iceland, or some other helpless country, to deflect attention from the disaster,

Need we remind the moonbats that it was their savior, Bill Clinton, that bombed Iraq to divert attention from his marital infidelities on the front page of the papers just hours after the story was broken by Matt Drudge?

--- That Cheney's only concern was with Gulf oil rig damage (followed by cracks about his heart condition),

Oh, is that not classy? They are picking on Cheney about his heart condition. And talk about hypocritical. Rhodes was railing about the fact that President Bush was feeling "joy" over the loss of Democrats, and these people have made crack after crack about Cheney's heart, and hoping he would drop dead. The first comments I heard out of Dick Cheney’s mouth were the calls to help the people displaced by this disaster. I have not heard him mention one thing about the Gulf’s drilling rigs, but this is a typical tactic of the Left. They’ve been doing it for five years. What is to stop them now. They are going to bring up his "evil" Halliburton connections (cue evil music with deep-voiced commentator using the Michael Moore talking points) no matter what.

--- Why didn't the administration have sandbags ready in time? One poster suggests the President be locked up for this supposed offense.

That poster should be locked up in an asylum for their stupidity. (No, they cannot come here.) And they did have sandbags ready. For the love of Pete, some areas of New Orleans had sandbags up. BUT, a levee is not going to be braced or backed up by a bunch of ten pound sandbags. They needed the bigger ones, and the helicopters were having a hard time getting up off the ground to move those bags into place. Besides, the first levee gave way as Katrina was dying down, yet still powerful. Anyone ever fly a chopper in a hurricane? Neither have I, and I would not want to try to.

--- National Guard troops were unavailable because they're all in Iraq,

This is a bald-faced lie. And to beat this lie back, I defer to RedState.org. Streiff has intimate knowledge about New Orleans and Louisiana. And in response to the moonbat talking points about the Guard, he posted this yesterday:

As of August 31 there were 3,748 Louisiana Army National Guardsmen and Army Reservists and 193 Air Guardsmen and Reservists on active duty throughout the world. The lion’s share of them, about 3,500, are with the 256th Infantry Brigade in Iraq. This leaves some 8,000 Guardsmen and an unknown number of Army Reservists available for disaster relief. The skill sets in those units, with the exception of the single combat engineer battalion, have no particular utility in disaster relief. So the argument that the absence of the 450 men of the 1088th Engineer Battalion were somehow critical to response to this disaster, or that the 3,500 troops missing could not be more than adequately replaced by other troops from neighboring states is just not true.

I checked the numbers he put up through the DoD. He is correct. The Left is wrong. Louisiana has the bulk of their Guard at home, and working on disaster relief.

--- Bush cut funding for New Orleans levee system, therefore the storm damage is his fault,

Another lie. The government inspectors that check the levees have warned the state of Louisiana for years that the levees either needed to be reinforced, or torn down and rebuilt. It is the state’s fault for not moving on the recommendations, and it is the federal government's fault for not making sure it is followed up on. President Bush did not cut any funding. He does not have line-item veto power. Congress cut it. Affix the blame to the proper people.

--- The President was more worried about playing golf than lining up donor aid for victims.

Can anyone show me where he was on a golf course during his vacation? I remember him jetting across the country making speeches, holding town hall meetings, and pushing his agenda; primarily his Medicare and Social Security programs. This was a working vacation. I figured the station that loved Cindy Sheehan so much would know that he was barely at his ranch this year. And no, it was not because he was hiding from Cindy. His vacation itinerary was set long before that moonbat ever ventured to Crawford.

Randi Rhodes was not the only fool on Air America yesterday. Brian Maloney points to Al Franken’s fill-in host, Rachel Maddow. He states that her show shared much of the same talking points, but with a level of debate thrown in. Except, she was not taking calls. She was debating herself. And of course, when one does that, you are bound to win every debate you have. To me, it just goes to show how chicken-s**t these people really are.

--- Bush is responsible for the resulting flood damage, because local officials had long warned the feds this type of event was inevitable,

This is a lie perpetuated by the moonbats, and Maddow grabs a hold of it. The state government has been blowing this off for quite some time. It was the federal government that warned the state, not the other way around. And now, because this occurred, the federal government has to bail out the state. The federal government did not want to pick up the bill, as this was a state problem. Now, they have to.

--- Bush knew the pumping system was inadequate but did nothing to fix it,

The state of Louisiana knew that the pumps were inadequate. It falls to them to fix them. Why is it that the blame must fall to the current president? The federal government has known about ems for well-over a decade, and seems to find other places to spend the taxpayer's money.

--- Louisiana National Guard troops have been begging to return home from Iraq, but are ignored. This led to a supposed lack of soldiers to protect New Orleans.

Scroll back up and read the excerpt from Streiff yesterday. There are 8000 out of 11,000 National Guard troops working in Louisiana. They are operating at their full capacity. All the troops would like to come home out of Iraq, but they have their job over there, and the troops over here have their job to do. However, this was a talking point swipe at the president because the Left just cannot come to terms with the fact that we are in the middle of a war, and we do not cut and run.

And, I have to ask a few questions here for the moronic moonbats at Air America.

The levee upgrades proposed, would they have been in place to prevent all of this? The WaPo this morning does not believe so, and neither do the Democrats. "Even with full funding in recent years, none of the flood-control projects would have been completed in time to prevent the swamping of the city, as Democrats yesterday acknowledged."

She claims that the administration opposed the moves to prepare the city for a Category Five hurricane because the money was needed for the war effort. Where is her proof? I have seen nothing to prove that. But I have seen a highway bill full of pork (and a highway in Alaska going nowhere), and an omnibus bill earlier this year full of pork. Yet, I saw nothing in any congressional bill for funding to help prepare New Orleans for this disaster. Remember ladies and gentlemen, the president does not, all on his own, propose spending bills. He cannot. Congress does that, and he signs it. He can make a case to include provisions for this sort of funding, but if Congress kills the provision in committee, what is he supposed to do.

The moonbat theory of National Guard troops in Iraq have weakened their response is not being perpetuated by the governor of Louisiana, nor is it being brought up by the mayor of New Orleans. So, where is the basis for this nutty conspiracy theory? There is none. This is just more antiwar vitriol from the Left with no evidence to back up their rantings.

They blame the government for the failures, which it is, to a point. The state being the most culpable in this. However, could the most expensive upgrades really have helped ease the burden of rebuilding and cleaning up from a Category Five storm? How about during a major power failure? The pumps shut down when the power went out. Where were the redundant systems? Why did the state not prepare for such a situation?

And after further reading this morning (this post took awhile as I had a lot of research to do for it) the federal government does not escape its culpability. Louisiana, for years, has been begging the federal government for more money to prepare the city for such a storm. With the resignation of Bob Livingston in December of 1998—such plans and demands were his pet project—the government had one less prominent person requesting such help.

Michelle Malkin points out that the Times-Picayune paper in New Orleans has been doing article after article since the early 1990’s that show the federal government has found other outlets to spend money on other than preparing New Orleans for such a storm of this magnitude. The Left likes to start history for America in January of 2001, but we have been around a lot longer than that. And Pres. Bush is not solely to blame for this failure of the defenses against a monumental storm like Katrina. The failures go back for years, and both the state and the federal governments are culpable.

We on the right have legitimate gripes, not the wacky moonbat conspiracy theories filled with frothing, seething hatred. Michelle Malkin on Hugh Hewitt’s show yesterday called people like Jack Cafferty "Armchair First Responders." She is dead-on right. Instead of us criticizing and assigning blame (yes, I am guilty of this today, but I am doing it in response to the Left’s manic ravings) we need to leave this to the professionals. Today, President Bush stated he was not happy with the response, thus far. "Get in there, and get it done." I could not agree more.

Also, to those who have not contributed to the relief efforts, we at the Asylum urge you to do so. We chose two fine charities to contribute to. Thomas chose "Feed the Children." One dollar will buy seven pounds of food; that is their boast, and many people are corroborating the claim. Then, we both contributed to "Catholic Charities." New Orleans is a predominantly Catholic city, and they will be helping the people a great deal. Even if it is one lousy dollar, please contribute. This is our house we have to clean up. Foreign help is welcome, of course, but this is our mess to clean up in the long run.

The Bunny ;)
