Wellstone Part II: When WillThey Learn?

OK. Unless you've been living in a Taliban cave, you know the utter stupidity that went down today. The funeral of Coreeta Scott King was held today. In attendance was not only President Bush and his lovely wife, Laura, but also former presidents Carter, Clinton, and the president's father. George H. W. Bush. For the most part, the service was respectful, and memorable; in the way a funeral should be where one remembers the dearly departed. The president had an outstanding statement regarding Ms. King, and I commend him for those words, especially after having to endure both of these following statements.

First up is Joseph Lowery: We know now there were no weapons of mass destruction over there. But Coretta knew and we knew that there are weapons of misdirection right down here. Millions without health insurance, poverty abounds, for war, billions more, but no more for the poor.

I guess the money proposed and distributed already for Katrina relief isn't enough for Mr. Lowery. But what ends up being truly tasteless is the political statement made in his address regarding the war policy. I won't even qualify his idiocy regarding WMDs with answering that. Our regular readers know we've dealt with that question, and for the most part--especially on the heels of General Sada's confession--that they weren't right regarding WMDs. Not only did we find them in Iraq, but we found components to his programs, as well. In addition, we found numerous schematics and formulas regarding those programs. He was working on some, and had a few. In addition, General Sada corroborates the story that the WMDs--for the most part--were shipped to Syria; a fact the UN doesn't dispute, but confirms.

Now, we have former president Jimmy Carter:"It was difficult for them then personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the target of secret government wiretaps."

Why didn't President Carter point out that those illegal wiretaps were conducted by Bobby Kennedy out of the Attorney General's office? Simple, he didn't want to seem hypocritical. That an the omission of that would ensure that his slam would hang in the air over President Bush's head. This was a deliberate slap in the face of the president as much as his comments regarding were, and those earned him the Nobel Peace Prize. I'm sure now Julian Bond wiull name him the NAACP person of the Year over that one. None too bright for President Carter, who also engaged in "warrantless wiretaps" via the NSA under his administration.

This whole fiasco was summed up by the president's reaction to the swipes and dirty slams from behind the podium. We could clearly see that he wasn't happy, nor was Laura. This funeral was turned into a "funerally," and became Bush-bash 2006. The sad fact is that this sort of behavior doesn't make America happy. We saw this in 2004 when his enemies came out of the woodwork. From Michael Moore to MoveOn.org, John Kerry to DemocraticUnderground, they came for the president, and he weathered the storm.

That's what they did on Tuesday. And he handled them in the best possible way. He took no dirty swipes. He handled his role professionally, and did what he came to do--what they all should have ventured there to do: Honor the memory of Ms. King. He rose above the petty partisanship and dirty pool. Those opposed to the president turned the memorial into a fiasco. It was Paul Wellstone's memorial Part II. One would have thought the Democrats would have learned their folly by now.

I'm pleased to announce that they never disappoint our side. When it comes to embodying their "mascot," the Democrats never fail to show just how much of an ass they can be.

Publius II
