Doesn't This Mean We Already Are At War With Iran?

For months now, we have listened to the rhetoric emanating from Iran. For those keeping score, it hasn't been good. Between repeated threats towards Israel by President Mahmoud Amadinejad to the constant saber-rattling over their nuclear program, it's become quite clear that the idea of "negotiations" are fast dwindling. But as if that wasn't enough, Cox & Forkum, long known for their humorous political cartoons, are still excellent bloggers, and they picked up on this story regarding the reported agreement struck that wasn't as solid as others believed.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, flatly denied reports from high-level diplomats that Russia had offered a new proposal that would allow Iran to enrich a small amount of uranium on its soil. ...

She said the United States has not changed its position "that enrichment and reprocessing on Iranian soil is not acceptable because of the proliferation risk." ...

The United States and European Union have demanded Iran return to its voluntary cooperation as a good-faith measure, but Tehran, which insists its program is for peaceful purposes only, accuses the West of holding the Islamic state to stricter standards.

No deal on the board, Kiddies. Russia either has recognized Iran as the threat others have, or they're playing a coy game of politics. I still don't give them much credit when it comes to a UNSC vote; they're still doing too much business with Tehran to actually be in favor of sanctions. And they're still smarting for the world finding out they were working with Saddam Hussein to flaunt the sanctions imposed by 17 UN resolutions, and the existing sanctions. But on the same day this informetion comes out, comes this:

U.S. military and intelligence officials tell ABC News that they have caught shipments of deadly new bombs at the Iran-Iraq border.

They are a very nasty piece of business, capable of penetrating U.S. troops' strongest armor.

What the United States says links them to Iran are tell-tale manufacturing signatures -- certain types of machine-shop welds and material indicating they are built by the same bomb factory. "The signature is the same because they are exactly the same in production," says explosives expert Kevin Barry. "So it's the same make and model."

U.S. officials say roadside bomb attacks against American forces in Iraq have become much more deadly as more and more of the Iran-designed and Iran-produced bombs have been smuggled in from the country since last October.

OK, can we safely say we're already at war with Iran, and bomb the hell out of their nuclear facilities already? Everyone knows that Iran has Hezbollah as a standing terrorist army within its borders, and no one can tell me that the government isn't giving these guys the means to send these explosives to our enemy in Iraq. In wars past, anyone who attacked us aside from the defined enemy likewise became an enemy of the nation. We knew the Chinese were behind both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts; the communists we were fighting in both wars were backed by the Chinese. This is leterally no different, aside from the fact that this wouldn't result in a nuclear stand-off with another nation. We risked a war with nuclear war had an invasion of China been made during either conflict; the primary reason why MacArthur was told no regarding his proposed strategy regarding China, leading to his dismissal by Truman according to many historians.

With Iran we don't have that problem. What we do have a problem with is dealing with the terrorists handing off these devices. I'm sure that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld feels a level of vindication from that report as he did talk about this back in 2005. Iran is helping to fuel the terrorists in Iraq by providing arms to our enemy. It's time to put an end to that post haste, and remind Iran that they're treading on thin already. Putting cracks in the ice isn't exactly the smartest thing to be doing.
