They Have Had Enough

This comes off the London Telegraph this morning. It seems that the Iraqis are getting sick of the recent rash of bombings that have been rocking Baghdad.

Iraq to launch huge Baghdad raids (Filed: 26/05/2005)

More than 40,000 troops are to be deployed to hunt down insurgents and weapons in Baghdad in the largest operation of its kind by Iraqi security forces.

Sadoun al-Dulaimi said a ring of concrete will be erected around the capital in a change of emphasis from defensive to offensive operations.

He said: "We will divide Baghdad into seven main areas, and the number of the forces who will take part in the operation from the interior and the defence ministry will be more than 40,000 security men.

"We will also impose a concrete blockade around Baghdad, like a bracelet around an arm, God willing, and God be with us in our crackdown on the terrorists' infrastructure.

"No one will be able to penetrate this blockade.

"You will witness unprecedentedly strict security measures."

He said it would be the first phase of a security crackdown that could eventually cover the whole country.

Bayan Jabor, the interior minister, said the operation, which will include troops from the interior and defence ministries, was designed to change the government's stance when it came to the two-year-old insurgency.

"These operations will aim at turning the government's role from defensive to offensive," he said.

The announcement came as a suicide bomber blew his car up near an Iraqi police patrol in Baghdad, killing three people and wounding six.

The insurgents have made mistake after mistake in this war. Their first one was tangling with our military. The second one was to attempt disruption of the free elections. Their third was to attack the Iraqi civilians. Their fourth were these car bombings. The Iraqis have had enough, and they are going to do something about it.

I appreciate the fact that they wish to do this on their own. It is time for them to take wing on their own, and it sends a clear message to the world (and the unhinged Left here) that they are nearly ready to stand on their own—completely.

And Captain’s Quarters brings up an interesting point about the screwy Left. It was only a couple months ago when Sen. Biden was arguing with Condi Rice over how many troops the Iraqis had. He continued to brow-beat her over the four thousand troops that "his sources" (read: NY Times) had confirmed for him. Dr. Rice was adamant that Sen. Biden did not know what he was talking about. It seems that Dr. Rice was correct, and once again, Sen. Biden does not have the faintest idea what he is talking about. It is a pity we cannot remove people like Biden from their positions for their incessant and inane idiocy.

And does anyone notice where US troops were not mentioned in this operation? I am beginning to think that they will not be used in this operation. Were I the commanding officer of our troops, Gen. Casey—Commander of the MNF in Iraq—should deploy a ring of troops around Baghdad to avoid the rats escaping with the Iraqis move in. The idea, after all, is to quell these insurgents; by any and all means necessary.
