I Will Be Brief When Beating On the UN
For those who believe that the UN is innocent of the charges against it in the Oil-For-Food investigation, I submit this:
Paul Volcker, the head of the U.N.'s Independent Inquiry Committee, announced Monday that the probe found that Yakovlev solicited a bribe from a French company that bid unsuccessfully on an oil-for-food contract.
The report found no evidence the company paid the desired bribe -- but it found that more than $1.3 million had been wired to a bank account Yakovlev controlled on the Caribbean island of Antigua since 2000.
"More than $950,000 of these payments came from various companies or persons affiliated with such companies that collectively won more than $79 million in United Nations contracts and purchase orders," the report found.
A former U.N. procurement officer pleaded guilty to money laundering, wire fraud and conspiracy charges Monday after the United Nations stripped him of his diplomatic immunity, federal prosecutors said. ...
This stinks to high heaven.
There was nothing to prevent this from coming to light. Volker has been making regular reports to congress regarding his probe, and it has hit pay-dirt. Did anyone suspect otherwise? The UN is as crooked as crooked can be. It is anything but "good" for the world, at this point. Vakovlev has pleaded guilty to the charges before him, and this is anything but an international prosecution. The World Court has no say in this.
I can say that because it was the United States that was ripped off. The US provided the bulk of the money in the Oil-For-Food program, as we have done with many a UN recommendations. WE are the UN, whether people agree with that or not. We give it it’s money, it’s peacekeeping forces, and the backbone when it’s needed. Our problem lies in who runs the show. It is evident that Kofi Annan is insufficient in the ability to run the organization. He has turned many a blind eye to the plight of the world, and has embraced dictators and thugs as friends; welcome in the confines of the UN.
This is a mistake. It is one that should be rectified. The UN—in this day and age—is irrelevant. It is time for a serious change in the UN, and the first should be our pull-out from this corrupt organization.
The Bunny ;)

I agree with everything you say. I've often posted if I were a protester, my two sided sign in red, white and blue would read EVICT THE UN and HANG ANNAN! Rawriter
