Democrats Of The Nation Unite...And Throw A Tantrum

Harry Reid took to the floor of the Senate this afternoon–while other senators were at lunch, typical that–and invoked Rule number 21. For those unfamiliar with this parliamentary procedure, this invokes a close Senate session. This is usually done if the Senate is dealing with classified material, and is always done with the other party knowledgeable of the event. Both majority and minority party leadership are in agreement over this move. John Kyl, Senator from Arizona, stated on Hugh Hewitt’s show this afternoon that the move shows a complete lack of "comity" among the party leaders, and it is an insult to the GOP leadership.

Now, many will ask "what were the Democrats up to?" The answer is so simple that many will see the question as foolish to ask. See, this was a temper-tantrum on the national stage. They didn’t just adjourn quietly. No, several senators ventured out of the hall to inform the press WHY they were doing this. According to them, they were reevaluating WHY the US went to war. I guess I have to ask the words made immortal by Darryl Worley... "Have you forgotten?"

Seriously though, the main reason why they did this was because the momentum has shifted in the last twenty-four hours. Last week, Patrick Fitzgerald presented an indictment for Lewis "Scooter" Libby. The charges range from obstruction of justice to perjury, and it’s all about a crime that never occurred. Fitz’s indictment stems from his Plame leak case investigation, and was originally targeting the president, Vice President Cheney, and Karl Rove. All three escaped the sweep that Fitz put forth, and he was left with Libby. The Dems, though upset over a non-indictment for Rove, were gleeful.

For five years this party has been trying to nail the administration for something. For four years, all we heard was "selected, not elected" from the liberals, and allegations of impropriety in the execution/prosecution of the war. With Libby’s head on the platter (not! I’ve read the indictment FIVE times now, and there’s not nearly as much there as the media touts) the liberals were popping corks, and toasting Dom Perignon. They had all weekend to hype this up, talk about the jail time Libby would get (again, not!), and generally act like the petty little people that they are.

Then, Monday hit them like a truck.

The president took the wind out of their sails, and nominated one of the finest legal minds in the country, and one already on the federal bench, to replace Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court. Samuel Alito killed their momentum. No one wanted to talk about Libby any more. The war, and the fifth-column antiwar zealots, were shoved to the back burner. Only poor, downtrodden, irrelevant Trent Lott tried to refocus things on Rove, and he was quietly patted on the head by the media while they continued to follow up on the Alito nomination. The Democrats were thoroughly deflated.

Hence the temper-tantrum. No one knows what went on behind closed doors, but Sen. Frist was fit to be tied. He stated–publicly–that this move made it clear that he couldn’t trust Harry Reid again. It was the sort of back-stabbing move that we, on the right, expected. How is it that we, out here away from the halls of power, know not to trust people like Reid, Clinton, Kennedy, Kerry Boxer, etc., but our own party in the Senate keeps trying to play nice. Democrats don’t try to play nice. They don’t like us. They don’t like what we stand for. And to them, no matter who speaks on behalf of our party, they call them "extreme."

If standing up for America, it’s ideals, it’s values, and it’s morals are extreme, then so be it. I’m extreme. So it Thomas. So is Marcie. And so are about 100 million other concerned Americans that think just like we do.

But this tantrum was unwarranted. It was completely uncalled for, and breached the line of ethics among colleagues in the Senate. And it was all done because the Democrats were losing the "air war" on Alito. They had the momentum throughout the weekend, and now the media has moved onto something relevant. The president made a nomination to replace a justice stepping down from the Supreme Court. And this nominee seals the fate of the GOP at this moment: He will cause a fight in the Senate, and it’s a fight we’ve been waiting for. The war for the courts is not some simple moniker used to generate ratings. It’s the truth. We, AMERICA, wants some sort of semblance and order restored to the nation’s highest court; an institution originally established to protect our rights, but over the last fifty years, or so, has become increasingly hostile to them.

So, if the Democrats think that a minor temper-tantrum is going to force us to stop the confirmation process of Alito, someone send them a memo to "think again." We got very upset over Miers, and the president nominated someone he knew he, and we, could trust. The man has a proven track record, and is solidly on the side of the Constitution. The Democrats have been threatening to take the fight to us. Guess what, we just did. We just walked up, and threw down the gauntlet. If it’s a fight they want, it’s one they’ll get, and no parlor tricks (like today’s closed session) is going to dissuade America that Alito isn’t the right choice. He is. They’re dead wrong.

Well said. You expressed by sentiments to a T. The closed door session was insulting. Reid is worse that Daschle. Reid does not speak for me and for the record neither do Boxer, Feinstein, Kennedy, Kerry, Schumer, Durbin, Hillary, Leahy and others including some Rino's. I support our President. I support the war on terror including Iraq. For those senators that voted for it, you had the same information as the President. How hypocritical to attack him. Stop your lying. I also happen to think that he made an excellent choice in Alito for the Supreme Court. It's time we take off the gloves and rearrange some senators faces and mouths and while we are at it, some in the media. Scooter Libby is innocent. Rawriter

TY Mr. Raw.

The session was insulting, but as the post Marice and I put up tonight emphasizes, Frist is an idiot to express surprise and outrage.

If people have not gotten the idea yet, the Democrats don't play fair. They're despicable, and Frist should have seen this move coming. If he is that blind, then he deserves what he gets.
