It Is Just Alito Against The Left
Much hullabaloo has been paid to Judge Alito's comments made on a application back in 1985 about his views on abortion. The Left went nuts, and conservatives that were uninformed scrambled when the news from Bill Sammon came down that Alito was opposed to Roe. But, in a meeting with Sen. Feinstein, today supposedly, Alito clarified that:
I was an advocate seeking a job, it was a political job and that was 1985. I’m now a judge, I’ve been on the circuit court for 15 years and it’s very different. I’m not an advocate, I don’t give heed to my personal views, what I do is interpret the law.
Everyone breathing again? Uncle Teddy up off the floor yet? Good...
...Because I believe this clears up much of the gnashing of teeth over the last 24 hours. What Alito is telling EVERYONE right here is that he is not an activist. He may dislike abortion, and the decision rendered in Roe. He may abhor the very concept. HOWEVER, he is not willing to stoop to the levels that jurists like Stevens, Kennedy, Souter, Ginsburg, Breyer, and O'Connor did. He will not touch the idea of being an activist from the bench, which is what we have been saying all along.
Judge Alito is not like them. He is a judge who believes in the way that judges should behave on the bench. Their sole, peculiar job is to interpret the law. They do not make it. Judges like him do not even try. They abide by the laws on the books, and the precedents set by court decisions. Now, I know a fair amount of conservatives will throw a fit over this, but the man is not willing to make a move like the other, more liberally-minded jurists, and legislate from the bench. It is not in him. To be a judge is an awesome responsibility. No one I am aware of (well, maybe one person) relishes their job.
Judge Alito's career has been one much like Chief Justice Roberts. They both served in the solicitor general's office. They both served in the Justice Department. They acted in accordance to what their client--The United States of America--believed. That is part of a lawyer's job. They believe in their client's case for the duration of it. Judge Alito was looking for a job, and the question he answered offered him a chance to give a personal opinion. This is an opinion that is rooted not only in his faith, but also in his heart. He dislikes abortion.
Whoopty-doo. Join the club.
I am sure that like Chief Justice Roberts, Judge Alito is willing to abide by precedent. His personal ideology has never entered into his opinions or decisions. He rules based on the letter of the law. I do wonder, at times, if the Left can remember what that means. The Left loves to spin, and revise what came before the present. Take a look at the revisions they have made in the last fifty years, or so.
--We have a right to privacy (not enumerated) within the Constitution.
--We have a right to abortion (again, not enumerated) protected by the Fourteenth Amendment.
--Nixon was the cause of the Vietnam War. (Not true: Kennedy sent advisors in, and LBJ followed it up with ground troops.)
--Clinton's impeachment wa about sex. (I guess they do not believe lying to a federal grand jury is wrong.)
--The president lied about intelligence to initiate the Iraq Phase of the GWOT. (Nevermind that the same intelligence was used by Clinton in '98.)
--Pres. Bush is the worst president ever, domestically. (Not with 4.9% unemployment, and a GDP growing at a rate of 3%; Clinton's numbers were 5% and 1%, respectively.)
--The Clinton "surplus" was due to his "master economic strokes." (Reagan tax cuts began to really show in '92, and he rode the wave into the ground by mid-point 2000 when the recession started.)
The Left cannot tell the truth if their lives depended on it. They prefer to spin, and to lie so they may still control their masses. We do not fall for the talking points, no matter how many times they are repeated. And the same goes for Judge Alito. Thomas and I have done the research on Alito. There is not ONE SINGLE THING to make us step back from our defense of this man. Nothing. No decision, no opinion, no comment.
Judge Alito WILL be confirmed. Thomas belives the final vote will be between a 68-32/72-28 split. I think the margin will be greater. I go on the record with an 81-19 split. He is too good to oppose. There will be no filibuster because to do so will only slice the throat of the Left. They are not willing to stick their necks out on the block that far. They will give him the token resistance, and "tough" questions in committee, but he will beat them as handily as Chief Justice Roberts did.
The only thing left to do is to wait for the hearings to commence, and for the right people on the Left to stick their foot out to be run over.
