Israel Part IV, For The Day: Closing Thoughts

Thomas and I are about to close down for the night. We will keep an eye on the wires about any new news, but I would like to share some thoughts regarding the incidents of today.

If Israel truly wanted to engage their enemy, they would be doing a lot more. Right now, the civilian leadership is screwing things up. They are not being as aggressive as they should be, and this appears to be more bluster than anything else. I apologize if we gave anyone the wrong impression. We are conveying the news regarding one situation in the world.

Neither Prime Minister Olmert nor his cabinet seem to have the intestinal fortitude to deal with either Hamas or Hezbollah in a decisive manner. No, I am not calling for the release of nuclear weapons, but I am calling for a more ... prosperous campaign. Blood is spilled in war, and the Israelis have yet to truly start. This fact I chalk up to the leadership in Israel.

No, WE are not some sort of bloodthirsty chickenhawks. We believe that Israel has a right to exist, just like any other nation, and has a right to defend itself, just like any other nation. Aggression towards it, which it has received on a daily basis, nearly, via the terrorists in Gaza, was more than enough to warrant hostilities. The kidnapping of a soldier more than warrants such action as those in power know what will likely happen to the soldier.

Two more raises the pot, a bit, and ensures that there will be hostilities. However, it is better to focus on the long goal, and understand the players involved. WE are dealing with the Palestinians in Gaza, and Hezbollah in Lebanon. They are but mere rebel-rousers. The prize remains in the heart of the Islamic world. That would be Tehran.

How quickly people forget that Hezbollah is literally headquartered in Iran. They are, in effect, and by de facto measure, the terrorist army in Iran; fully sanctioned and supplied from Tehran. The attacks by Hezbollah, the increase in Hamas attacks; they all point towards Iran. And is it anyone's surprise that Iranian national security advisot Larijani is in Damascus tonight. Syria is a key strategic ally of Iran, and President Assad has regularly praised his Hezbollah fighters in their continuing jihad against Israel.

The gall of Hamas and Hezbollah has been matched by a paltry response by Israel. This shows me that another nation is playing the politically-correct game of war. Only it should not be treated as a game. Soldiers are not mere pawns for governments to use whenever they see fit. There is a level of respect that is due to those that protect the innocent and the weak. Prime Minister Olmert is running this war as though he is someone afraid to take, or dole out, casualties. War is not a game. People die; good people who probably do not deserve to die do so. And it is a tragedy.

But the world stands at a crossroads where 2006 and 1934 look a lot alike. And Iran sits at the center of it. Prime Minister Olmert would be best served by wiping his enemy out, and refocusing on Iran. They are the player on the other side of the chessboard that stands to win, in the end, if they can succeed in stalling the West over their nuclear programs. And if they achieve that, then Israel's endgame may be more than six million dead.

I've followed Israel since 1947 and the wars they've had to fight. One thing, I've learned is never to under estimate Israel. They are attacking terrorist organizations at their home base. The message to the government and people is stop harboring and supporting
terrorists. I believe what Israel is doing preventing troops movement that is so very vital in a conflict. Also, remember Israel has in depth
intelligence. They know what to hit to make an impact. Israel is taking Casualties. I think Israel is being very deliberate. My money is on Israel and not the Islam terrorists. Rawriter
