And We Thought The Ayatollah Was Bad ...
(Cross-posted at our new site.)
In addition to the Ayatollah's insane address about the Hezbollah/Israeli war, and his accusation that this is all a part of some grand "strategem," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave an address. This is not the entire speech, but rather excerpts because no one can seem to find the full text. MEMRI provided these excerpts, and as readers will see, the rhetoric is far above what the Ayatollah presented today:
"They have no boundaries, limits, or taboos when it comes to killing human beings. Who are they? Where did they come from? Are they human beings? 'They are like cattle, nay, more misguided.' A bunch of bloodthirsty barbarians. Next to them, all the criminals of the world seem righteous." ...
... "They are a bunch of Zionists. Where have they come from? As you know, the rule of hegemony and the web of colonialism strived to establish a base in the heart of the Middle East. A hundred years ago, they began to devise conspiracies on the basis of a diabolical plan. Bit by bit they arrived, and backed by the devious, deceiving England, they sneaked people in, and placed them in control over the people of Palestine. Sixty years ago, by means of a highly complex plan involving psychology, politics, and propaganda, and by means of weapons, they managed to establish a false regime in the heart of the Middle East. At first they claimed: 'Since some of those [Jews] lost their families in World War II, and were killed by the German government, we must give them a land.' They established a regime, and placed them here. Afterwards, we saw that they did not make do with [the Jews] who presumably were harmed in the war. They gathered people from all over the world, brought them here, and turned them into the landlords. They expelled more than five million Palestinians from their homes with weapons and with oppression. They gathered people from all over the world, and imposed them here. Our question was: 'If these people were harmed in Europe, why do you want to compensate them out of the pockets of the people of Palestine, and with their honor and their land?' Then they claimed that these are people whose forefathers had lived in this land 2,500 years ago, and that they should therefore be the rulers of this land. We say to them that if we were to accept this principle, and were to apply it throughout the world, all the political borders in today's world would change.
"We ask you: Who lived on the land of America 250 or 300 years ago? Don't the rulers of America today rule because of the massacre of the native Americans? If we accept the principle that anybody whose forefathers ever lived on any land 2,000 or 3,000 years ago should rule today, then America should be ruled by the native Americans who are there today. There is proof that they existed. There are films, photos, documents, maps, and their descendants." ...
... "They established that regime so that it would constitute a constant threat, and would prepare the ground for the control of the rule of hegemony, and so that they would be able to impose agreements on the people. As you know, some of the countries in our region made armament deals worth more than 150 billion dollars with America and England, under the pretext of the regime that occupied Jerusalem. Since they are under America's control, they never used these weapons against the regime that occupied Jerusalem." ...
... "It is totally obvious from what is going on that this plan was made a long time ago. The Americans failed to implement their Greater Middle East policy. They thought that by attacking and occupying Lebanon, they would be able to revive the dead plan to establish a Greater Middle East. That is why they attacked. As you can see, their crimes know no limits.
"I hereby declare: The world must know that America and England are accomplices to each and every one of the crimes of the regime that has occupied Jerusalem. They must be held accountable." ...
... "Everybody knows that this regime [Israel] can do nothing without the orders and backing of America and its intimate friend, England. That's why we have declared these two regimes are responsible for all the crimes of the insubordinate Zionist regime." ...
... "The Lebanese scene is like a mirror. It displays the criminal essence of the rule of hegemony and the false claims of the great powers to support human rights, freedom, and democracy. At the same time, it exhibits the oppression of the Lebanese people.
"Today, Hizbullah in Lebanon is the standard-bearer of the resistance of all the monotheistic peoples, of the seekers of justice, and of the free people. Hassan Nasrallah is shouting the loud cry of the vigilant human consciences. Today, Hizbullah stands tall as the representative of all the peoples, all the vigilant consciences, all the monotheistic people, all the seekers of justice, and all free people of the world, against the rule of hegemony. Until now, with the help of Allah, [Hizbullah] is winning, and, Allah willing, it will reach the ultimate victory in the near future." ...
... "I declare, before all the dear people of Bojnourd, that in light of America and England's behavior, it has become clear that they don't have what it takes to participate in international forums. They don't have what it takes to sit in the Security Council, and to have a right of veto. They themselves are guilty and criminal, and they must be placed on trial." ...
... "When I see the behavior of America, England, and their other accomplices in recent days, I get the impression that they are preparing even greater crimes. I warn them: Know that the fire of the wrath of the peoples is about to erupt and overflow. If you do not put an end to your crimes, know that the ocean of the peoples will soon rage. When the peoples begin to move, they will drag everybody to the defendant's bench, and will remove them from the throne of power." ...
... "Today, the Iranian people is the owner of nuclear technology. Those who want to talk with our people should know what people they are talking to. If some believe they can keep talking to the Iranian people in the language of threats and aggressiveness, they should know that they are making a bitter mistake. If they have not realized this by now, they soon will, but then it will be too late. Then they will realize that they are facing a vigilant, proud people."
In this day and age, where the world seemingly is spinning out of control, and a party in the United States is firmly entrenched in the idea that the only true diplomacy is isolationism and retreat, this is, indeed, a scary speech. Ratcheting up the rhetoric beyond that of the Ayatollah, Ahmadinejad has accused this nation, Great Britain, and Israel as criminals. He proposed a trial for those that have committed these crimes. So be it. Come on over and give it a try, and the might of Iran will be dwarfed by the superpower known as America.
We are trying to play the diplomacy game with this nation. (Whoever it was at State that came up with this hair-brained idea should be fired.) TIran should be treated as the Communist nations in the 1980's were. Ignore them. Let them fail. Isolate them from their neighbors, their trade partners, and their allies. This is not about any sort of hegemony in the Middle East. There are quite a few people in the Middle East that want peace. Years and years of war have made these people look in the direction of the United States, and they desire what we have. They wish to have the same freedoms that we do.
The youth in Iran are ardently and bitterly opposed to the control of the mullahs. They desire to see Iran freed from their bloody ideology. They know that a future where war is their only fate is no future at all.
But Ahmadinejad is whipping his supporters into a frenzy. Like Hitler in the late 1930's, he is appealing to those that are the most virulent. Those that possess the same, if not more extreme, beliefs as he holds. That is the danger. He has a number of avid followers, and among them are the Basiji--the frontline shock troops in the Iran/Iraq war. I highlighted Mattias Kuntzel's New Republic piece that gave an overview of this radical branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. these are the most fervent believers in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and most likely (if you follow the above link the MEMRI site) those were the people chanting "Death to Israel" and "Death to America." (That is speculation as I have not yet watched the video file available on the MEMRI site.)
He is, with this speech, and others like it, notifying the world that Iran is preparing to unleash itself on the region. Hezbollah's attack on Israel is, in our opinion, a proxy war perpetuated by Iran. Iran is emphatically against allowing Israel to survive in the region, and are preparing for the future when they can remove them. That means nuclear weapons, as Ahamdienjad eluded to at the end of his speech. They have nuclear technology, and he has no intention of ending his desire to achieving a weapon of mass destruction. In the hands of Iran, the world is in deep trouble. Imagine, if you will, if Adolf Hitler had an atom bomb BEFORE the Munich Agreement. Hitler had overblown his military might, forcing France and Britain to play a game of catch-up that they did not have to play. They had overestimated Hitler then. But what if they had not, and Hitler had possessed the most destructive weapon known to man, at the time?
World War II might have never occurred until it was too late. Tardiness due to the fact that Hitler would have most certainly created more than just one by the time the war would have started. At that point, with his long-range bombers, London, Paris, and Moscow would have disappeared under mushroom clouds. And we would not have been immune from the attacks, either if we had opposed him. Remember, we caught German saboteurs on United States soil six months after our declaration of war on Japan and Germany. Imagine if they had the capability to detonate an atomic warhead in New York City--one of the two cities both teams were captured in by the FBI.
And with Iran--Ahmadinejad preaching this in the speech above--it may be too late when the world chooses to react. With Hezbollah, they could transport warheads around the world, and lay in wait until the word is given to blow themselves up; the ultimate martyrdom for the Islamofascists.
That is a prospect that I do not wish to imagine, but it is a possibility that both Thomas and I have considered. And we are not the only ones. The elites in the blogosphere have raised the red flag over Iran, and in response to our announcement that we will negotiate with them. The problem with that line of logic is it is virtually suicide. It is a possible replay of the Munich Agreement, and we could end up with similar results. But instead of it being due to fear of the military might of Iran, it will be due to the fact that they will have nuclear weapons, and the world will be left holding its collective breath again. The Soviets were evil; their ideology preached that. But they were not foolish enough to lock horns with America in a nuclear exchange. Mutual assured destruction kept them in check.
But what happens when the other side is not afraid to die, and actually relishes in death more than anything else? You have Iran, and that is precisely what their mad leader is willing to commit his country to; a path to death and destruction in an insane bid to wipe out all of their enemies. We should never forget that we are dealing with a madman, but one that is quite cagey. He learned from the mistakes of Saddam Hussein, but he also learned how to manipulate the international community to divide them.
"A house divided cannot stand." An animal with two heads cannot survive. Right now the international community is thoroughly divided over Iran. France, once worried about Iran, has recently praised them as a stabilizing force in the region. Britain and the United States are against Iran. But Russia and China are firmly in Iran's camp. Ahmadinejad has done a very good job of buying himself time while the diplomats squabble. But we the people should never forget how dangerous this man is, and how much more jeopardous they could become with the world's most destructive weapons.
