A Faux Veteran Caught Red-Handed
Has anyone heard of Jesse MacBeth? Anyone? Because the Army seems to have missed him in their records:
Today, the Army ran a check on Mr. MacBeth’s credentials. It turns out, not surprisingly to anybody with half a mind, that Mr. MacBeth has NO Army service record. Anywhere. Period. This is a direct quote given to me by Army spokesman John Boyce:
“Initial research by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg shows no Soldier with the name of Jesse Macbeth having ever been assigned to the Special Forces or the Army Rangers -- which are, in fact, two separate disciplines. This appears to be some sort of hoax. No Soldier by that name at Fort Lewis to our knowledge, in the past, either. Of course, the line about "go into the Army or go to jail" is vintage TV script not heard since the 1960s. There are also numerous wear and appearance issues with the Soldier's uniform -- a mix of foreign uniforms with the sleeves rolled up like a Marine and a badly floppy tan beret worn like a pastry chef. Of course, the allegations of war crimes are vague, as are the awards the Soldier allegedly received.”
That was the answer that the Just Citizens received in response to who he is. For those that are unaware of who he is, as I was until I hit Michelle Malkin's site this evening. After reading through the posts concerning him, I am incensed.
It seems that Mr. MacBeth, in an attempt to futher his moonbat delusions, promoted himself as an Iraq war veteran, and began his wacky rants. He ripped into the troops, the war, and the efforts underway now in addition of accusing our troops of perpetrating war crimes. Pardon my language, but this person is a real piece of $hit.
And when news erupted today of this, the ever-vigilant Greyhawk went to work. The story broke at around 11 a.m. EST this morning. And by 5:40 p.m. EST this evening, all of Jesse's friends have left him. Q And O (notoriously famous for nailing Rep. Roy Blunt to the wall for his veiled threats towards bloggers vetting him for the House Majority Leader position) and Clarice Feldman note just how quickly the bloggers swung into action against this faux soldier.
And people why bloggers are around? We are around and work as hard as we do to prevent this sort of garbage from reaching the MSM. At the very least we serve as better ombudsmen that most MSM outlets possess. It is sickening when we have to do something like this because people simply take things at face value, and seem uncomfortable with questioning things that simply do not sound right.
And had this story reached the level where the MSM had picked it up, would there have been nearly as aggressive fact-checking and expert analysis as what the bloggers have just provided? I think not.
Here endeth the lesson ...
