I Hear The Georgia Satellites: Lileks Is On The Air
One of the high points of our Thursdays is James Lileks. And he's on right now.
Hugh opens up with a simple question for James: Are you ever going to insult Christopher Hitchens? Hitchens and Juan Cole had a ti-for-tat earlier this week. Cole took some cheap shots, and Hitchens fired back. Lileks appreciates Hitchens' humor in stating "Illl take a drink if I have to," as Cole accused Hitchens of being a raving drunk.
Next is United 93, which James has not seen yet. He admits that the movie might be disturbing, but that it will drive the point home that needs to be. Simply put, never forget. He does have a child, and that is a mitigating factor for him.
Next up is Patrick Kennedy's unfornate accident with a barrier. Do they ever conduct sobreity tests when accidents like this happen? For us, sure. For a member of Congress? Not likely, and I am assured that did not happen with Kennedy. Lileks accuses the roving concrete barriers; part of our post-9/11 security measures. Kennedy, in a statement, stated he had not been drinking. Uh-huh. Again, cue the roving barriers.
Last but not least, he brings up Colbert. Lileks is mocking him, and rightly so. He stated that his humor, was at best, okay. I have to agree as when I read his comments. I was not amused. I was not upset, as a few conservatives were. He just was not funny.
And on that note, James will be back next week!
