News Flash! Did We Just Capture Someone Important?
Captain Ed thinks so. He cites the CENTCOM documents from al Qaeda that were released. And he brings up this interesting note:
The current commander of Northern al-Karkh (Abu-Huda) is very concerned because of his deteriorating security situation caused by being pursued by the Americans, since they have his picture and voice print. Therefore, his movement is very restricted and he is unable to do anything here. We should remove him from Baghdad to a location where he can work easier; otherwise he is closer to become totally ineffective. I know nothing about his past military experience or organizational skills.
And he brings this up because of of">this report from the Iraqi news services:
Karbala. High-ranking leader of terrorist organization Al Qaeda was detained today in Iraqi province of Karbala during military operation, Iraqi news agency INA reports. Abdel Fatih Isa, a.k.a. Abu Aisha, was arrested in a private home where he had been hiding for a long time. The arrest was made after a few houses in the town had been searched through. The terrorist is among the chief organizers of terrorist acts in capital Baghdad. According to military sources Abu Aisha was an officer from the Iraqi army during Saddam Hussein’s rule, the agency notes.
Captain Ed believes that Abu Aisha and Abu Hunda might be one in the same. (He does state he's not sure whether Hunda is a name, place, or designation, but he has his suspicions.) So do I. Just a couple days after the release of these documents, and we pick up an al Qaeda commander? Coincidence? Sorry, I don't play the coincidence game. I'm betting they knew who they were looking for all along, and it was only a matter of time before they ran him to ground.
But with several key apprehensions in Iraq and Pakistan, I'd say we're doing a helluva job on their operations. We netter their PR guy in Pakistan, which put a serious damper on their propoganda operations. Richard Miniter was on with Jed Babbin this after noon (Jed was filling in for Hugh, and no, Duane has yet to post the transcript) and he relayed an important piece of information. Al Qaeda has its own media source. It produces the video that is distributed to the media, and assists in the production of audiotapes and "hard-copy" literature for distribution. With the fall of the PR guy, this puts a damper on their reliance on the media to help them. As a matter of fact, I discovered this within the CENTCOM documents:
The policy followed by the brothers in Baghdad is a media oriented policy without a clear comprehensive plan to capture an area or an enemy center. Other word, the significance of the strategy of their work is to show in the media that the American and the government do not control the situation and there is resistance against them. This policy dragged us to the type of operations that are attracted to the media, and we go to the streets from time to time for more possible noisy operations which follow the same direction.
In other words, they are using the media. They are using our own media against us because they know how the MSM thinks. "If it bleeds, it leads," and that sort of ideology is especially beneficial to our enemies. They know that when they make an impact, it will be displyed on every media medium that they can find. And it also plays to those in America that can't seem to handle the body count. We are losing soldiers, and that is bad. I'm not downplaying it. However, in comparison, we're doing a helluva lot better than we had in past wars. The years go on, and our combat techniques, tactics, and strategy changes. War, like anything else, is an ever-evolving process.
Our enemy has learned a lot about us by whatching the MSM, and watching our politicians. They know if they create enough Hell in Iraq, they may be able to drive us from that nation. I truly doubt it will happen, but they can hope; collectively, with the Left and the MSM, they might be able to beg a cup of coffee for that hope. But it isn't helping the enemy. They're on the run. They're being systematically hunted. And they know the end is coming. Right now it's only a matter of time. In addition, if they don't get our of Iraq soon, they know they'll be dead, or sitting in a detention cell.
