Two Tips From The Captain

(And no, that is not the "Captain" in Chirs Muir's hilarious cartoon today.) I am referring to Captain Ed Morrissey, and two stories that the MSM should be addressing. The first one they are, but the second one they are doing their best to ignore it. Why? Because the second story reinforces the accomplishments in Iraq since al-Zarqawi was killed.

Story #1 comes from Yahoo News:

The bodies of two U.S. soldiers who had been reported kidnapped have been found near the checkpoint where the men disappeared after an attack, a senior Iraqi military official said Tuesday. The U.S. military said two bodies had been found but had not yet been identified.

Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston and Pfc. Thomas L. Tucker, 25, of Madras, Ore., went missing Friday near the town of Youssifiyah, south of Baghdad. Spc. David J. Babineau, 25, of Springfield, Mass., was killed in the attack. ...

Ahmed Khalaf Falah, a farmer who said he witnessed the attack Friday, said three Humvees were manning a checkpoint when they came under fire from many directions. Two Humvees went after the assailants, but the third was ambushed before it could move, he told The Associated Press.

Seven masked gunmen, including one carrying what Falah described as a heavy machine gun, killed the driver of the third vehicle, then took the two other U.S. soldiers captive, the witness said. His account could not be verified independently.

It should be noted that these bodies showed signs of savage torture, and al-Masri, the newly chosen successor to al-Zarqawi, stated that he personally slit their throats. These bodies were also booby-trapped. They were dumped where soldiers would find them, and it was obviously the jihadi's hopes that their booby-traps would kill those soldiers. This is what our enemy does. It is not pretty. It does not follow the rules of warfare. How much more evidence do we need to have presented to us to finally wake up and realize that these animals in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and elsewhere in the world need to be hunted down and killed?

Story #2 comes from CENTCOM:

Coalition forces killed 15 terrorists and detained three other suspects during simultaneous raids north of Baqouba June 20.

Coalition forces came under immediate small arms fire from a rooftop upon arrival to the objective area. The ground force returned fire, killing nine armed terrorists on the rooftop, and an additional two armed terrorists who were identified firing on Coalition forces from next to the building, were killed by Coalition aircraft supporting fire.

Following this initial contact, Coalition forces found 10 AK-47 assault rifles, one shotgun, one pistol and a crate of explosives.

One supporting aircraft hit utility wires as they were engaging the armed terrorists. The aircraft was damaged and forced to make a controlled landing. There were no injuries to the crew and the ground force immediately secured the site.

Three armed suspects were then killed by another Coalition aircraft as they attempted to attack the downed aircraft.

After securing the aircraft, Coalition forces moved to assault the building that several terrorists had fled to following the first contact. One terrorist was killed by a Coalition sniper as he attempted to engage the troops from the nearby rooftop.

The force cleared the buildings, detaining the three terrorists. The captured individuals, who fled earlier, were found hiding amidst nine women. None of the women were injured. One of the detained terrorists was wounded at the initial target building after he engaged Coalition forces.

And CENTCOM:

Coalition forces detained a senior al-Qaida in Iraq network member and three suspected terrorists during coordinated raids southwest of Baqouba June 19.

The terrorist is reportedly a senior al-Qaida cell leader throughout central Iraq , north of Baghdad . He's known to be involved in facilitating foreign terrorists throughout central Iraq , and is suspected of having ties to previous attacks on Coalition and Iraqi forces.

Coalition forces secured multiple buildings and detained the known terrorist plus three suspected terrorists without incident. Troops found an AK-47 with several magazines of ammunition and destroyed them all on site.

Several women and children were present at the raid sites. None were harmed and all were returned to their homes once the troops ensured the area was secure.

And the BBC updates the story with who we killed:

Gen Caldwell said on Tuesday US forces had killed Zarqawi's "right-hand man" in a raid in Yusifiya on Friday, near where the US troops were abducted.

The general said Iraqi Mansur Suleiman al-Mashhadani was "a key leader in al-Qaeda" and could have succeeded Zarqawi.

I can understand the MSM's hype of the two soldiers brutally tortured and killed. But to overlook the success of the recent raids in Iraq that is steadily tearing apart al-Qaeda there is something that leaves me scratching my head. Hundreds of raids have been launched since al-Zarqawi's death. Hundreds of terrorists have been killed, and well over 100 al-Qaeda fighters and leaders have been captured. Instead the MSM opts not to report on these successful moves by the US-led coalition, and Iraqi forces. What really irks me more is the fact that the MSM is not acknowledging the fact that the Iraqis are taking the lead in these raids. I guess to them it shows that we are winning over there and we are making steady progress.

And until the MSM decides to wake from its "Rip Van Winkle" slumber, the bloggers will pick up the slack, and make sure the informed stay that way.
