KeeBee Round-Up Part II: Lunchtime!

On an average day we need to maintain a balanced diet, or so my doctor tells me. And today is no exception. Following the theme I started this morning here are more KeeBee links for all those interested in varying opinions across the blogosphere:

Sean S @ Shoot a Liberal picks up the witch-hunt that Rep. Ike Skelton is on towards military recruiters. It seems that an AP report revealing sexual misconduct by military recruiters raised Rep. Skelton's ire, and he is mad as hell. He wants extra punishment slapped on these people. Whoa. Extra punishment, you ask? Yes. It seems that these soldiers have already been disciplined, but that does not matter to the ranking representative on the Armed Forces Committee. He wants new language inserted in the new DoD appropriations bill that will force the military to institute tougher penalties to soldiers who commit these egregious actions. Sean observes that Democrats dislike the death penalty, but they might be open to flogging or keel-hauling.

The Assistant Village Idiot helps us with our French lesson today. No, he is not ordering wine. Well, if you are French, it might be "whine" instead of "wine," but nonetheless he points to a quote from Jules Crittendon's brilliant piece on French double-speak:

...one must understand that when France suggested it wanted to broker peace in Lebanon, it did not necessarily mean “broker” or “peace” or “Lebanon” in the way we might understand those words. The same is true when France further suggested it wanted to “lead” a “strong” “multinational” “force” there.

Indeed. But there was little need of this reminder. The French have a laundry list of examples where they never really mean what they say.

The Libertarian Popinjay observes that Red State makes a good case in noting an ABC bias. The controversy surrounding Andrew Young (who went on a bigoted tirade against Jewish, Arab, and Korean shopowners) is being defused by ABC News. According to ABC, this is Wal-Mart's problem (because Mr. Young was a paid spokesman for them) and has nothing to do with the DNC (which Mr. Young is clearly affiliated with). Nice to know that ABC has decided to stop covering news, and has offered to become a new DNC propaganda machine.

Carl at Israel Matzav notes that Ehud Olmert is trying to sound tough by announcing that Israel will accept no members of the peacekeeping force that do not have standing relations with Israel. Now, I know that this looks good for Olmert, but his mistakes in the war have already sealed his fate. This could get even worse if Olmert proves that talk is cheap, and backs down from this statement.

Flap's Blog is reporting on Senator Joe Lieberman's appearance on Face The Nation where he made two statements that are not going to make too many people happy. The first was yet another call for Donald Rumsfeld's resignation. (Honestly, this is getting tiresome; he has offered it several times, and the president refuses to accept it.) The second, and one that could hurt him as much as the idea hurt John Kerry in 2004:

Sen. Joe Lieberman on Sunday called on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign and backed an international conference to find a way out of the crisis in Iraq.

Anyone know what that sound is in the background? It is the air whistling out of the Joe-mentum ballon. An international conference, Senator Lieberman? I think not. The international community has screwed up enough of the Middle East in the last week , or so; no need to add fuel to the fire.

Curt @ Flopping Aces says that according to the WaPo, Iraq has fallen into complete civil war. And who is their expert to back them up? There is none. As Curt puts it, all debate is over and this is occurring because they said so:

The debate is over: By any definition, Iraq is in a state of civil war. Indeed, the only thing standing between Iraq and a descent into total Bosnia-like devastation is 135,000 U.S. troops — and even they are merely slowing the fall. The internecine conflict could easily spiral into one that threatens not only Iraq but also its neighbors throughout the oil-rich Persian Gulf region with instability, turmoil and war.

Cue the slow, dramatic, music, and introduce the hysterics. Lord have mercy on my patience. Yes, Iraq has some problems right now, and we are doing what we can to rectify it. But the dinosaur media needs to quit hyping a civil war that is neither full-blown or threatening any of Iraq's neighbors, yet. However if the coalition does not remain vigilant, then that could occur. But this garbage from the WaPo is inexcusable. Furthermore, if you read tyhe whole piece (link available through Flopping Aces) you will see that this reads like a petulant child's temper-tantrum. I can just picture Dan Byman and Ken Pollack stamping their feet with their little fists balled up on their hips. "No Mommy, you listen to me ..."

Hillary Needs A Vacation has a link to the protests in Great Britain by Islamofascist supporters. Nothing like hitting the stump for terrorists animals.

And finally we come to The ChickenHawk Express where it is observed that there were no Hezbollah fighters in the made-up Qana non-massacre. The old adage goes that "a picture is worth one thousand words." Head on over and take a look at the pictures. How many synonyms can you come up with for "Bravo-Sierra?"

Until "happy hour" that is all for now

Marcie
