If This Route Is Taken, It Could cost The Democrats Congress, Again

Guns are an issue in this country because we have the enumerated right within the Constitution. Many of those opposed to guns wishes that we didn't have this right, but these are the same people who don't understand why the right is the most important one in the Bill of Rights. If we ever lose our guns, we lose all the other rights because we'll have no way to defend them. Our Founding Fathers wanted that right granted to the people so that if the government ever grossly overstewpped their authority, the peoiple could retake the government by force. That's a prospect that has a lot of people worried; concerned that someday we may have to do something just like that.

But the Instapundit observes that the Brady group is prepping for a lobby of Congress to reinstitute the Assault Weapons Ban. Alphecca has the details that comes directly from this LA Times story:

At the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the leading gun-control advocacy group, President Paul Helmke has high hopes for the assault weapons ban — and he can list races where candidates backed by his group defeated those supported by the National Rifle Assn.

But Helmke, a former Republican mayor of Fort Wayne, Ind., acknowledged that his challenge was to convince Democrats that his cause was not "radioactive." Many Democratic strategists have come to believe that supporting gun-control laws alienates rural voters and many independents.

"Guns are a tricky issue," Helmke said. "But the elections show there's nothing to be afraid of."

They are a tricky iussue for the gun grabbers in this nation. They believe all guns are bad, and want them gone. Meanwhile, citizens like myself and the kids relish the opportunity to protect ourselves when it becomes necessary. Let's face cold, hard facts here: The police are overwhelmed nowadays, and we gun owners would prefer that we have the ability to protect ourselves and our families from the thugs on the streets. Let the police clean up the mess and write the reports, but if someone is breaking into my home, I'm shooting them on the spot after ONE WARNING only. Leave, or die. That's it.

And the Democrats would be foolish to forget that the '94 ban was one of the issues that led to their ouster from the majority that year. People don't like it when electied officials start toying with our God-given rights. If the Democrats listen to these gun-grabbing nuts, they're going to blow both feet off before they even get started on their two-year stint in the majority.
