New AQ tape surfaces; withdrawal legislation cited

Wake-up call for the nutters in Congress: The enemy is watching and listening, you morons ...

This morning a brand, spanking, news al Qaeda video hit the 'Net and in it, Ayman al-Zawahiri not only makes fun of Congress, but also calls for upwards of two-to-three hundred thousand dead soldiers in Iraq:

In a new video posted today on the Internet, al Qaeda's number two man, Ayman al Zawahiri, mocks the bill passed by Congress setting a timetable for the pullout of U.S. troops in Iraq.

"This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap," Zawahiri says in answer to a question posed to him an interviewer.

Continuing in the same tone, Zawahiri says, "We ask Allah that they only get out of it after losing 200,000 to 300,000 killed, in order that we give the spillers of blood in Washington and Europe an unforgettable lesson."

Based on the references to the bill, the tape, produced by al Qaeda's propaganda arm, as-Sahab, appears to have been made after Congress passed the legislation last week but before President Bush vetoed in on Thursday.

According to
Laura Mansfield, a counter terrorism analyst with Strategic Translations, an organization that monitors al Qaeda postings, the tape was posted on the Internet this morning and covers the usual range of Zawahri's topics including Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.

There has been a flurry of audio and video releases featuring Zawahiri, although no new communication from Osama bin Laden since mid-2006.

When are we going to learn? Every time the Democrats or Republicans act up, our enemy takes advantage of it. We should have learned by now that giving them fuel for their fires isn't a smart thing to do. This latest attempt by Democrats is a prime example. See, al Qaeda's using this sort of behavior much the same way the NVA did against our POWs in 'Nam. the difference is that al Qaeda is far more tech savvy than the NVA was. That, and, they're not using it against POWs because anyone captured by them is killed.

This nation stands divided, thanks to Democrats, over this war. That's because their party has been spreading rumor, innuendo, and lies since the war started. Last night while I was in a chatroom, I was asked a simple, straight-forward question:

If a Democrat had called for regime change in Iraq, would I have supported it?

Stupid question, was my reply. Of course, and a Democrat president DID have the authorization for regime change. In 1998 the Congress passed a resolution calling for exactly that. Based on what Bill Clinton presented to them -- nearly identical to what President Bush presented to the Congress in 2002/2003 -- they voted him the authoprity to remove Saddam Hussein. Did he use it? Nope. He lobbed missiles in there and called it a day. That's not regime change, and it was harldy worth depleting our missile inventories.

For the record (for those on the Right and on the Left) while I disagreed with much of Clinton's decisions as president, he was still President of the United States, and I have respect for that office. When our troops went into harm's way, I supported his decisions regardless of my general feelings for the mission. (That is, of course, provided it's justified, and not a "wag the dog" scenario to take minds off of scandals erupting underneath him.) At a time when this nation is at war, our Commander-in-Chief should be supported 100%. The Democrats aren't doing that, and they're doing just about everythng contrary to hurt him.

Not physically, mind you, but politically. Calls for withdrawal, holding the funds for our troops hostage, artifical timetables and benchmarks, undermining his authority as commander of our military forces, launching fruitless investigations, and accusing him again of lying us into this war. There is a significant difference between a mistake and a lie. A lie is intentional, and is meant to completely snowball people. A mitake is just that -- believing you are right -- and basing it all on information you have in hand. The same information that we saw in 1998. But the Democrats won't admit it, nor will they admit to remembering back that far.

They have grossly overplayed their hand in this realm, and they're irritating the Hell out of the country right now. When people like David Broder tell them to knock it off, and begins calling for the senior leadership in congress to be removed, you can tell the base isn't happy. No offense, folks, but Broder is hardly right-wing. And he's got a serious point. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are playing partisan politicis with our troops' lives, and the efforts to prosecute this war. When it comes to national security, when it comes to soldeirs in harm's way, when it comes down supporting the mission, partisan politics ends. You do your job as a member of Congress, as a memeber of the presidents Cabinet, and a as a senior military commander. You don't screw around with their lives, and you sure as Hell don't give propoganda fuel to our enemies.
