The "Defeatocrats" On The March, And Clueless As Ever

The Senate killed the Defense Appropriation Bill today all over ANWR.

WASHINGTON - The Senate blocked oil drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge Wednesday, rejecting a measure that had been put into a must-pass defense spending bill in an attempt to garner wider support.

Drilling supporters fell four votes short of getting the required 60 votes to avoid a threatened filibuster of the defense spending legislation. Senate leaders were expected to withdraw the legislation so it could be reworked without the refuge language. The vote was 56-44.

Prior to the contentious vote, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., told colleagues that "it is wrong" to consider the issue of drilling in the refuge as part of a defense bill that would provide money for troops in Iraq as well as relief for Katrina hurricane victims.

This is a bold move for a party so desperate to relate to America. Basically, in this move, the Democrats have opted to shut down the Pentagon, refused to pay our troops, and refused to provide for those same troops in harms way all over ANWR. Now, here's a bulletin for the Democrats:

You claim ANWR has nothing to do with defense, but you're wrong.

ANWR could very well help us at this time. It would end the need to import oil from Venenzuala (which is under the leadership of a Communist thug), and lower our need for oil from Saudi Arabia (who are still helping our enemies trying to kill us in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and are dead set on striking us here.) It will provide us a greater level of energy independence, and in a world like the one we live in today, that's a good thing. It prevents us from having an embargo slapped on us from either nation, and having it hurt us.

Barbara Boxer claimed that the provision of ANWR in the bill was a "win for big oil." Bob Byrd presented a rambling diatribe accusing the GOP of "breaking Senate rules" while professing his "love" for Ted Stevens (from Alaska) and a greater "love" for the Senate. And lest we forget, Byrd reminded us that he "knows the rules of the Senate." John Kerry presented a rickety, boring speech reminding everyone in the Senate the he knows and can relate to the soldiers in the field, and that despite the fact he doesn't want to kill the bill, but had serious misgivings about it because of ANWR.

In short, ladies and gentlemen, they're a batty as their fever-swamp, moonbat followers.

The people of the Gulf Coast won't get their money for rebuilding.

Subsidies for heating oil won't be approved for those facing a long winter back east with heating costs ont he rise.

ANWR won't get the approval for drilling.

John "I want my damn strawberries back" McCain won't get his precious torture legislation passed.

The Pentagon will shut down; a threat that the Democrats promised they would do to kill this bill.

Our troops won't be paid, and won't receive the necessary supplies/equipment to continue their mission.

That is what will happen because the Defense Bill was killed today. Worse, it was killed with the assistance of two GOP RINOs: Lincoln Chafee and Mike DeWine. Chafee, I have said for a long time (long before the Gang of 14 deal) has got to go. The only thing missing with this guy is the "D" next to his name, rather than the "R". DeWine is on such shaky ground right now, not only among the base, but the people of Ohio. More often than not, this guy is a blind as a newborn babe in the woods; frequently being on the wrong side of the issue.

Further, before the night is out, the Patriot Act will also come up for one more attempt. Today on Hugh Hewitt's show, he interviewed John Kyl from Arizona. Kyl assured him that they have the GOP back on their side, and he believes that them voting with the caucus could possibly draw more Democrats over to the side to renew this. For me to say that this is an important vote is an understatement. If the Democrats win the day, not only will the troops be in the "hand to mouth" situation that John Murtha's been crowing about, but we'll be blind and deaf to our enemies.

There is a term for this that many of our readers would bring up. And believe me when I tell you all that there's a part of me that would like to utter it, and carefully, skillfully argue on behalf of the charge. But I'm not ready to just yet. To our regular readers we say this: Don't be disheartened by this. We're on your side, but leveling a charge of treason isn't an easy charge to gain a conviction of.

That's why we agree that the Democrats are wrong. They are more wrong than they ever have been, and again I'd like to reiterate a reminder to the Democrats. IF you decide to continue on this path, we, as the base of the GOP, will hang you in 2006. You can't afford to lose these seats you could possibly lose, but if you keep this up, we'll make sure it happens. We're already gearing up to get our thorns removed from the party, and it would take little effort to level the scope in the Democrat's direction, too. 2006 is right around the corner, and we've already got the lead in the ground game. Mayor Laffey is challenging Chafee in his reelection bid, and Laffey's racking up the money. Chafee is already fighting an uphill battle.

We, the people of America, need to call up both sides, and tell them to pass the Defense Bill, and to pass the Patriot Act. Get on the phones now, and let them know.
