Guest Blogging: Rice To EU--We're At War, You Idiots!

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is in Europe, and she plans on spanking a few of our so-called allies in this global war.

Condoleezza Rice, the United States Secretary of State, will urge European governments to back off in the continuing row over alleged secret terrorist detention camps in Eastern Europe and clandestine CIA "prison plane" flights.

Dr Rice, who begins a four-country European tour tomorrow, is preparing a "robust" defence of American treatment of terror suspects, as Washington belatedly comes out fighting on the controversy, senior European diplomats told the Sunday Telegraph.

Although Dr Rice is keen to improve diplomatic relations with Europe, she will use her visit to argue that unorthodox tactics are needed to obtain information from detainees and to prevent terror attacks.

We're not fighting Boy Scouts in this war. We're not fighting nations that, as signatories to the Geneva Convention, would abide by the "civilized" rules of warfare. These animals fight and strike from the shadows; most of the time with little or no warning. At times like these, we need to fight them on their level. That means we get nasty. We get dirty. Yes, we still abide by the Geneva Convention's so-called rules of war (we aren't the ones beheading our captives), but at times you can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you could with just a kind word.

The US has been refusing to confirm or deny reports that it held suspected Islamic terrorists at secret bases in Poland and Romania. The European Union has launched an investigation and threatened punishment if any countries co-operated with the US on practices that are illegal in Europe, such as torture.

We shouldn't have to do either. Our allies are willing to hide these animals for us while we interrogate them, then so be it. It's none of France's or Germany's business what we do with these terrorist cowards. France should know better. They're still dealing with rioters, albeit less now than when it started. Germany's got no room to talk either as they have limited Muslim travel into their country out of concern as to who is coming in. They don't know, one way or another, if those seeking entry are of the Islamo-fascist variety, or those who condemn such acts.

The furore has grown as details emerged of CIA-chartered aircraft - some believed to be ferrying detainees on so-called "rendition" flights - using airports across the Continent, including Britain, for stopovers and refuelling. Eight nations have launched investigations.

Yesterday, it emerged that two chartered jets involved in carrying Islamic suspects to the Guantanamo Bay base had used airports in France, one of the fiercest critics of the Iraq war.

With large swathes of European public opinion and many leading politicians hostile to US policy in Iraq, Dr Rice knew that the controversy would blight her trip to Germany, Romania, Ukraine and Belgium, and wanted to reshape the debate.

"Rice isn't going to be making any apologies and we don't expect any acknowledgement that the camps existed, a senior European official told the Sunday Telegraph.

No, there shouldn't be one apology whatsoever. Instead, I expect Dr. Rice to take the fight back to the opposers and appeasers in this war. I fully expect, in her stylish, diplomatic manner, that she will remind them that they're idiots, and we're at war. No one in this administration has quite the ability to tell someon to go to hell in a manner where they'd look forward to the trip except Dr. Rice.

"But she will emphasise that we need intelligence to save lives and that America and Europe are in this together. She will also urge European governments to help put this message across." Dr Rice will also state that the US respects international law and does not violate national sovereignty.

And technically, we're not. We are bringing nothing into their nations that would be considered "illegal" or "contraband." The appeasers of Europe should have no problem simply refueling these jets, and letting them leave. Besides, one less terrorist on the ground is one less bombing that will occur, or a few less innocent civilians killed.

As America's closest ally, Britain is expected to accept her message. But as the Government holds the rotating EU presidency, it has fallen to Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, to convey the organisation's concerns to Washington.

The State Department is preparing its response to a letter from Mr Straw on behalf of the EU, seeking details about the alleged clandestine sites.

Dr Rice started to unveil the message to European visitors to Washington last week. She told Bertie Ahern, the Irish premier, that she expected allies to trust that America does not allow rights abuses - a sign she will avoid any detailed response on intelligence matters.

There's an adage in the intelligence field that Thomas often reminds me about and that is if someone has a need to know, we'll let them know. This operation doesn't concern our allies, and it sure as hell doesn't concern those opposed to our invasion of Iraq. Why do we have to come clean on anything regarding these prisoners? France, Germany, and Russia refused to come clean with their complicity in supplying Saddam Hussein with weapons he was forbidden to have; weapons that were most assuredly used on his own people. They were complicit in countless deaths in Iraq, yet the US isn't shouting that at the top of our lungs. No, we put it on the record, and it's easily verifiable. Yet, when we tell the world to shut up about our operations, they immediately start investigations.

"What's the US up to? Where do these people go? What do the interrogators do to them?"

In short, ladies and gentlemen of the EU, it's none of your damned business. And as for what our clandestine operations are capable of, the EU might need to be reminded of this. (Hat-tip: Again, to Captain's Quarters.)

Abu Hamza Rabia, an Egyptian credited with heading al Qaeda's international operations, was among five militants killed in an explosion at a house where they were hiding in North Waziristan on Thursday.

Musharraf, arriving in Kuwait on an official visit, confirmed Rabia had been killed.

"Yes indeed, 200 percent. I think he was killed the day before yesterday if I'm not wrong," Musharraf told reporters.
While officials said the blast was caused by explosives stored in the house for bomb-making, residents said a helicopter fired rockets into the house at a village near Mir Ali in the tribal agency. ...

Intelligence officials earlier on Saturday told Reuters that Rabia was using the alias 'Nawab', and they subsequently intercepted a message passed between militants saying Nawab was dead.

They said Rabia had escaped an attack by Pakistani security forces on November 5 in the same region but eight people, including his wife and children, were killed in that operation.

That was the initial report, and it came from the Pakistanis. But MSNBC broke the news late yesterday that it had little to do with the explosives in the house, or any mishandling of them. No, Rabia's death came at the hands of the CIA.

While Pakistani officials publicly said Rabia died in a blast caused by explosives stored in a house for bomb-making, officials speaking on condition of anonymity told NBC News he was killed by a CIA missile strike carried out by an unmanned Predator airplane.

Pakistan's government has always been reticent to admit that Predators are used in Pakistani airspace to hunt down al-Qaida operatives.

The sources told NBC News Rabia was one of five men killed at a safehouse located in the village of Asorai, in western Pakistan, near the town of Mirali. Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Rabia’s remains were identified via a DNA test.

Among those killed in the attack were two Pakistanis and three Arabs. The attacks were reportedly carried out between 1:45 a.m. and 2 a.m. local time on Thursday.

Local residents said that the men were killed by an unknown number of missiles fired by an unmanned Predator aircraft. The witnesses said that missile remnants bearing U.S. markings remain in the area. They also said they had heard six explosions, but it is uncertain how many of these were the result of missile attacks and how many may have been the result of the missiles detonating explosives inside the safehouse.

So, the number 3 man has been taken out. We're making headway in the war. We're getting solid intelligence from those we interrogate. I see no problem with this, and neither should Europe. They owe this nation so much for what we've sacrificed in the past for freedom, and what we are continuing to sacrifice. And, in my humble opinion, anyone who even tries to speak on behalf of these animals, requesting that they be treated less harshly than what they are (which I see no harsh treatment, especially at Gitmo), are collaborators to these animals. They would have us give these people quarter that is ill-advised. No, we will do what we have to do, without qualms or regret. We are a nation at war. This is no time to get Euro-cold feet, and treat these animals with French kid-gloves.
