Saddam Still Working On WMDs in 2000
At least that is the concensus from Joseph Shahda who has been doing an outstanding job of translating these released documents. And Captain Ed wonders the same thing that we do: With these documents in hand, why did our intelligence services NOT translate them post-haste. This newest one focuses on nerve agent detectors which were banned in Iraq. It was a part of the UN's feeble attempts to keep him "contained." A fallacy, at best, that the world would have suffered from. He had them. He built them. And he was using them. See, these detectors are deployed with units that utilize nerve gas so they can detect if the agents are blown back into thier own ranks. The UN figured that if he was prohibited from having them, he would no longer produce nerve gas.
Of course, that just shows the utter ineptitude and impotence of an organization all too full of itself. But, here is how the translation reads on this particular document:

On the light of the above (1) a second equipment was received from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and the total tests were done on it on 24/12/2000 using laboratory equipment to Chemical Detection Device (GSU-12) and with the presence of the Chemical Class representatives and the manufacturing party and its success was proven from the perspective of detection and reaction to NERVE AGENTS.

Now on page 71 of the document there is a section that mentions that the production of “Nerve Gas Detectors” is PROHIBITED

Based on what is in the letter of the respected Presidential Secretariat (Top Secret) aa’/4 on 22/1/2001 followed by the Top Secret letter of (M.I.C) 2/4/44 on 13/1/2001 and after review of the technical report the commission recommend the following:
1. Consider it a work that reach level of Invention Works because it replace the need that occur to the Russian equipment that has an expired efficiency and that exist in the storages of the Chemical Class, and it is a PROHIBITED EQUIPMENT where the price of the effective material in it can reach 51,000 Dollars.
An inability to sleep pays off for our readers as we now see that the UN had its own pipe dreams about containing Saddam Hussein. The document shows that not only are they developing it, but also that they recognize that the technology is prohibited. There was no containment for Saddam. He was still developing his weapons, and developing the equipment to ensure his troops were not affected by the deployment of such weapons.
The twelve years of twiddling their thumbs, dawdling, and believing that he would one day turn over a new leaf were jokes. He had NO INTENTION of ending his hunt for WMDs, a continued development of the ones that he had, and further research on the ones he did not have, like nuclear weapons. And all the Left has for an answe ro these documents is to criticize those people translating them, and basically referring to their work as "amateurish" and "irrelevant."
It does not take a surgeon to perform a tracheotomy. Anyone with a semblance of knowledge regarding the human body can perform one, and save the life of someone who is choking, or has a blocked airway. It does not take a professional athlete to play football, baseball, basketball or hockey; plenty of "amateurs" gather on lazy Sundays to toss the pigskin around a park. It does not take a professional journalist to handle the reporting and dissemination of news; bloggers have been beating them to the punch for years, and hopefully many more to come.
And it does not take a professional translator to translate a document in a language they know. Mr. Shahda deserves recognition for his work--work that the US government's intelligence agencies should have been doing. He does not deserve the incredulous disdain from the MSM, who have yet to even acknowledge how much of a gold mine this document dump is. And for those that still pooh-pooh these documents as "phony" or "irrelevant," to them I address this:
Pull you head out of the sand, and simply look at what has been translated. Based on that alone, you can no longer hold onto the myth that Saddam Hussein was not a threat to the region, or to our interests. He still despised being beaten by us in 1991, and still beleived that the war was ongoing. Even to the point where he was willing to "let bygones be bygones" and approach outside agents to give us Hell. That would be his terrorist ties to Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Fatah, Hamas, and al Qaeda. These facts are backed up in these documents, and are completely indisputable.
