It Was Only A Matter Of Time

Everyone remember the Military Commissions Act that was debated by, and passed by, the Congress? The one which authorized the tribunals for the detainees we've captured in this war? The one that the Democrats belly-ached about regarding the habeas corpus right for terrorists? Yes, that one. The UPI is reporting that Senator Leahy is taking aim at that act, and looks to restore those rights to our enemies:

A battle is shaping up between Democrats and the White House over the Military Commissions Act, signed into law last month by President George W. Bush.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., is expected to take over as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and The (Calif.) Daily Journal reports that Leahy is drafting a bill to undo portions of the new law in an effort to restore habeas corpus rights for enemy combatants.

A spokeswoman for Leahy told the newspaper the bill would be intended to repeal portions of the law that prevent some detainees from pursuing federal court challenges to the government's authority to hold them indefinitely.

Spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler told the newspaper the goal is to "try and do something to reverse the damage."

Scott L. Silliman, Director of the Center for Law, Ethics and National Security at Duke University School of Law, told the newspaper an attempt to amend the law could set up a partisan showdown in Congress, and possibly a presidential veto.

The Democrats want to give our enemies rights that are guaranteed to United States citizens only. This is a stupid idea, and I would hope that they aren't this obtuse. Do they think this will appeal to the nation? Do they think that this is going to win them favor? This is absolutely typical of this party. Rather than doing their jobs, they are about to start pushing their agenda forward. This looney idea is unprecedented. NEVER in this nation's history have we allowed our prisoners of war habeas corpus rights. It's a foolish notion to even entertain the idea; it is dangerous, irresponsible, and utterly retarded to say they're moving forward on it.

But America spoke, right? They spoke up on Tuesday and said they wanted a change. Well, change is what the nation got, and now I hate to say this, but we deserve whatever the Democrats try to pull in the next two years. Call your congressman and yell at them to stop this bill from ever reaching the floor of either House. This simply proves our point even more than the other stupid rumors coming out about investigations into the administration. The Democrats have no plan to defend this nation, and they're showing the nation the levels of their idiocy.

I've seen the new democrat list or agenda and it's seems it's all negative and nothing positive. An increase in the minimum wage isn't positive or is revoking any tax cuts. I understand being in the minority gives us certain privileges and one is committee minority chair. I would hope Specter is replaced by a strong person that won't take any crap from smiling leaky Leahy. This goes for every house and senate committee. I understand waxman will chair investigation and he's wondering who he should select. I suggest reid and murtha. (Lower case first letter meant to convey no respect-none-nada) Rawriter
