Kerry Coverage--Cancelled Campaign Visits And A Dem Finally Speaks Up
(***UPDATED and bumped to Wednesday posts***)
First up, Hugh Hewitt found a Freeper thread pointing to a FOX News Channel report that Senator Kerry has decided NOT TO ATTEND the campaign stops in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. And Hugh correctly states that statements from both Amy Kloubacher and Bob Casey, Jr. need to be obtained.
The states that they are asking to trust them are owed an answer to the question of if they agree with Senator Kerry's comments. This goes to national security and the military, as we have both pointed out tonight, and how they view them. If there is this much disrespect for our military, can we really trust them with the responsibility of "commanding" them?
As yet, as Hot Air observes, the Freeper thread is the only source of Kerry's withdrawal from the campaign trail. No news outlet has that as an online-obtainable report. However, one Democrat is on the record in condemning him.:
DES MOINES, Iowa A Democratic Congressional candidate from Iowa is canceling a campaign event later this week with Senator John Kerry.
Brucy Braley says Kerry's recent comments about the Iraq war were inappropriate.
Braley is running against Republican Mike Whalen in Iowa's First District congressional race. It's a contest considered to be one of the most competitive House races in the country.
Braley's decision to distance himself from Kerry came as a furor grew from comments Kerry made about the Iraq War during a campaign stop in California on Monday.
Kerry said if you make the most of your education, you "can do well." The Democrat went on to say that is you don't, (quote) "you get stuck in Iraq."
The remarks prompted sharp criticism from some Republicans, including President Bush and Arizona Senator John McCain.
Kerry refused to apologize.
And he still hasn't apologized. Not that we could trust the apology, anyway. But this also illustrates classic John Kerry:
When confronted with the truth you will spin, you will twist, and you'll evade. And in the end, you run. You did it in Vietnam (getting his three Purple Hearts, and out). He did it in 2004 when he was caught in lie after lie about the record he was running on, and when confronted with his own words, he ran. He had no choice. He knew what trying to answer the charges would have been like. He tried, and was beat down by those doing the fact checking.
And this is what's happening this time around, as well. He made a statement. He was called to account for it. He said it was taken out of context. When the president stated that he should apologize, he refused. Now, he's running because he knows that his campaign stops will be brutal. Not only will it give him bad press (which is the last thing the Democrats need right now) and bad press for the person he's there on behalf of (which is the last thing the candidates need).

UPDATE: Wednesday, 1 November, 7:03 a.m. Senator Kerry Lightens His Campaing Load Further --- First, Braley in Iowa calls him and says don't bother showing up. And now he's starting to bow out of Minnesota stops; notably one for Tim Walz.
U.S. Sen. John Kerry canceled a campaign visit here in the wake of a controversy over remarks he made about students and the war in Iraq, according to a spokeswoman for congressional candidate Tim Walz.
"He wants to make sure the campaign is about the issues we've been talking about the last two years," the spokeswoman, Meredith Salsbery, said of Kerry's decision. "It's important to him that we are able to do that."
Kerry was to appear at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota State, Mankato, with 1st Congressional District candidate Tim Walz. Walz will still appear at the event, Salsbery said. Walz is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Gil Gutknecht, R-Minn.
No mention of Tim Walz doing what Brucy Braley did, which was condemn the remarks, but I'm sure that a couple of sensible Democrats will start to come out swinging on him. And, of course, this is the best the Kossacks have to offer to this story:
The GOP once again went after Decorated combat veteran Senator John Kerry yesterday. The 101st Fighting Keyboardists and assorted neocon shills may be conspicuously absent when their country is in need, yet they're always on duty, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, to smear any survivors. But this time, the good Senator took the gloves off.
"I'm sick and tired of a bunch of despicable Republicans who will not debate real policy, who won't take responsibility for their own mistakes, standing up and trying to make other people the butt of those mistakes. It disgusts me that a bunch of these Republican hacks who've never worn the uniform of our country are willing to lie about those who did." Sen. John Kerry 10/31/06
First off, we wouldn't have gone after him had he just kept his mouth shut. It's not like we put a gun to his head, and handed him a script. He made this gaffe on his own, and does quite well with stupid comments like this on his own. If the nutroots want to put the blame somewhere, try blaming the guy who made the insulting comment in the first place. Try that before you lower the boom on anyone in the GOP.
Second, it's an HONOR to be lumped in with the rest of the 101st, as we are standing members of it. And what of it when it comes to the KeeBees. Make all the chicken hawk comments you nutters want. We're right, we know we're right. And we've got a load of people--those would be the ones p*ssed-off right now at him--that are backing us up.
Third, don't you just love the disdain he has for anyone who didn't join the service and serve? I like how he spits on the nation, in general, with that comment. Is it any wonder WHY this man lost in 2004 with an attitude towards everyday Americans like that? PATHETIC. He won't admit his mistake. H*ll, even Captain Ed was kind of torn over this story. As he points out--as WE pointed out last night--had Kerry simply said "I'm sorry. I never intended to offend any of our soldiers. My words were poorly chosen in an off-the-cuff moment" then maybe, just maybe, this story would have died. Instead it's now in it's THIRD DAY. And this story now has the legs to begin killing Democrat candidates across the nation. It'll be interesting to see how the polls look in the next 24 hours.
Any Democrat who takes a hit from this fiasco will have Senator Kerry to thank. This is going down the way we expected it to, and the way we saw it happening yesterday. John Kerry's too obtuse to realize the damage he's caused, and he's too bull-headed to admit he was wrong. Let the nutters keep defending him. He just killed his shot at a '08 nomination (we may have short memories, but the troops don't), and without an apology, he's going to cause the Democrats to lose this year. And it's all due to his mouth runneth amuck, and only a couple of Democrats who have stepped forward and condemned his statement.

1 Comments:
I've read four kerry's explanations: 1) I was referring to Bush, 2) It was suppose to be a joke, 3) I didn't mean it. 4) I won't apologize for Iraq.
I have no use for kerry, none, nada. He lies. He's a traitor.
