VA Tech Update: Killer ID'd
Allah @ Hot Air has this fresh off of the wires. ABC News called it: His name is Cho Seung-Hui, a resident alien in the US.
Cho is a South Korean national, a Virginia Tech senior and an English major and the man who killed 33 people, inlcuding himself, on the Virginia Tech campus Monday.
Sources tell ABC News that Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left a "disturbing note" before entering a classroom building on the other side of campus to continue his rampage.
Cho's identity has been confirmed with a positive fingerprint match on the guns used in the rampage and with immigration materials.
"Lab results confirm that one of the two weapons seized in Norris Hall was used in both shootings," Virigina Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum said at a press conference this morning.
At this time, police are not looking for a second shooter, however, they do not rule out the possibility that an accomplice may have been involved. Sources say Cho was carrying a backpack that contained receipts for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol, sources said. Witnesses had also told authorities that the shooter was carrying a backpack. Police also Cho had a .22 caliber pistol.
Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.
In all, the massacre at Virginia Tech left 33 people dead — including Cho himself — in the worst shooting in modern American history.
It is also worth noting that one of the victims in yesterday's shooting was a faculty member. Prof. Liviu Librescu died protecting his students by holding the door shut against Cho while his students leapt out the windows in the classroom. What was not mentioned yesterday, or even today, is that he was a Holocaust survivor:
As Jews worldwide honored on Monday the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust, a 75-year-old survivor sacrificed his life to save his students in Monday's shooting at Virginia Tech College that left 32 dead and over two dozen wounded.
Professor Liviu Librescu, 76, threw himself in front of the shooter, who had attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, "but all the students lived - because of him," Virginia Tech student Asael Arad - also an Israeli - told Army Radio.
Several of Librescu's other students sent e-mails to his wife, Marlena, telling of how he blocked the gunman's way and saved their lives, said the son, Joe.
"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv.
"Students started opening windows and jumping out."
Librescu was respected in his field, his son said.
"His work was his life in a sense," said Joe. "That was a good place for him to practice his research."
Librescu was sent to a labor camp in Russia as a child and saved by the townspeople. His father was deported by the Nazis.
As a scientist working under Nicolae Ceaucescu's fascist regime, Librescu was forbidden to have any contact with sources outside Romania. He defied the ban, continuing to publish scientific articles secretly.
We were correct yestewrday when we posted about the pistols. One was a 9mm Glock 19. The other was a Walther P22 .22 caliber pistol. We still do not know why ABC has not pulled down it's high-capacity magazine story from yesterday. Despite the fact that the story is full of inconsistencies and half-truths, they have refused to take it down. Furthermore, it is the sort of alarmist bravo-sierra that the media was hounding the White House about yesterday. The moment Dana Perrino took the podium in the White House press room, the first questions that were asked dealt with gun control.
The weapons used in this massacre were pistols, and supposedly leagally purchased. They were not assault rifles (which the ABC blog post refers to the sunset ont he assault weapons ban), and no one yet -- be it a witness or authorities -- have stated that he was using high-capacity magazines for pistols. I would like to note that those particular magazines were not included in the weapons ban. Those were still quite legal to have. We ought to know. Thomas has a couple for his pistols. (No, they are not in the firearms regularly; he only uses them when we go to the range so he does not have to reload nearly as often.)
Also, for those that want a comprehensive amount of information about this shooting, Wikipedia already has a page for it here; the team at Pajamas Media is keeping up with the updates, as is Allah @ Hot Air. Check back with these sites often for any updates on the aftermath.

Thanks for your posting. I picked it up while googling and I appreciate your efforts to present facts.
The mainstream media still doesn't get it- this desire of people do deal with the truth.
