L'Intifada française A Commencé: The French Intifada Has Begun

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. Then, the French police warned the government that things were going to get worse. Late yesterday, Glenn Reynolds brings us word that it has escalated. First, from an al-Reuters report from ABC, rioters are, again, making a problem as it gets closer to the one year anniversary of the riots that paralyzed the French. And it is interesting to note that al-Reuters goes out of it's way to avoid identifying the rioters as anything other than "youths:"

French police and youths clashed in a Paris suburb on Sunday as tensions mounted ahead of the anniversary of riots last year that shocked the country and provoked renewed debate about the integration of immigrants.

A police spokesman said 30 to 50 individuals were involved in the clashes in Grigny south of Paris that started after youths set several cars on fire and torching a bus after ordering its passengers off.

"There are still some sporadic incidents, mostly stone throwing," he said.
In a statement, the Action Police CFTC police union urged the government to deploy "a visible and large number" of riot police to discourage youths from constantly attacking patrols.

In recent days police patrols in a number of towns across the country have been attacked by petrol bombs.

"This latest clash marks the progressive start of a repeat of the riots of November 2005," the statement said, referring to the incident in Grigny.

Thank you al-Reuters for neutering your story. We will recall that the riots occurred last year after two Muslim youths--who had been running from police--were accidently electrocuted when they took refuge by a power station. For over a month, the French did not know how to react to such blatant and animalistic violence. They eventually regained control of their streets, but not until after hundreds of cars were torched, and numerous buildings were vandalized and attacked.

And in addition to this story, another one that Glenn points to shows that they are openly challenging the police in the streets now:

On a routine call, three unwitting police officers fell into a trap. A car darted out to block their path, and dozens of hooded youths surged out of the darkness to attack them with stones, bats and tear gas before fleeing. One officer was hospitalized, and no arrests made.

The recent ambush was emblematic of what some officers say has become a near-perpetual and increasingly violent conflict between police and gangs in tough, largely immigrant French neighborhoods that were the scene of a three-week paroxysm of rioting last year.

One small police union claims officers are facing a "permanent intifada." Police injuries have risen in the year since the wave of violence.

National police reported 2,458 cases of violence against officers in the first six months of the year, on pace to top the 4,246 cases recorded for all of 2005 and the 3,842 in 2004. Firefighters and rescue workers have also been targeted - and some now receive police escorts in such areas. ...

... More broadly, worsening violence in France testifies to Europe's growing struggle to integrate its ethnic minorities. Some mainstream European politicians - adopting positions previously confined largely to far-right fringes - are suggesting that the minorities themselves are not doing enough to adapt to European mores.

In Britain, former Foreign Minister Jack Straw, now leader of the House of Commons, this month touched off a wide debate about the rights and obligations of Muslims by saying that he asks devout Muslim women to remove their veils when visiting his office. Prime Minister Tony Blair said Islam needs to modernize....

... Ethnic integration and violence against police are both becoming issues in the campaign for the French presidency. Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, the leading contender on the right, said this month that those who do not love France do not have to stay, echoing a longtime slogan of the extreme-right National Front: "France, love it or leave it."

Michel Thooris, head of the small Action Police union, claims that the new violence is taking on an Islamic fundamentalist tinge. "Many youths, many arsonists, many vandals behind the violence do it to cries of 'Allah Akbar' (God is Great) when our police cars are stoned," he said in an interview.

Larger, more mainstream police unions sharply disagree that the suburban unrest has any religious basis. However, they do say that some youth gangs no longer seem content to throw stones or torch cars and instead appear determined to hurt police officers - or worse.

That is an AP report, and just like al-Reuters, they cannot bring themselves to use the "M"-word. But what the AP report shows, especially as you scroll through it, is the same sickness that is spreading across Europe right now. Some members of the police have come out and said it has nothing to do with religion? Please, tell me that statement is unconfirmed. If that is truly what some of the police believe, then the war is already lost.

Europe is already rolling over for the Islamofascists within their borders. They have never had to deal with the mass immigration that the animals are swamping them with. Yes, for the most part this violence is due to the youths going on a rampage, but that is how these people are waging the jihad. They lose their minds at the drop of a hat, and their only answer is to resort to violence.

That violence, and the threat of it, is what is keeping Europe from reacting to these people. Their inability to deal with this is astounding. They refuse to take the steps necessary to either force these people to assimilate, and behave under their laws. Worse, they lack the physical and intellectual fortitude to keep their nations from becoming predominantly Muslim. Already they are outnumbered, as the french are proving, and will soon be even more outnumbered than ever.

This goes back to the warnings presented by Mark Steyn. (Order his book here, or go out to your local bookstore and pick up a copy.) In it, he describes the downfall of Europe, and it is coming in the form of appeasement.

So if a population "at odds with the modern world" (in Phillip Lonman's phrase) is the fastest-breeding group on the planet, how safe a bet is the survival of the "modern world"? The principal's challenge to the United States in the years ahead is to avoid winding up the lonesome gal in town. Given that most of its old allies--the ones John Kerry places so much stock in--are unlikely to conjure up the will to save themselves, it's important that new allies are found among emerging nations. I'm a supporter of the Bush Doctrine, of bringing liberty to the Middle East. It's a long shot, but, whatever their problems, most Islamic countries have the advantage of beginning any evolution into free states from the starting point of relative societal cohesion. By contrast, European nations face the trickeir task of trying to hold on to their freedom at a time of cultural disintegration. Many of them won't make it. Watching the scenes of the anti-Danish protests on TV, as angry implacable crowds marched through the streets denouncing freedom as "Western terrorism" and pledging that "the enemies of Islam" would "drown in their own blood," I thought to those times I've been in the Arab world and rounded a corner and found something scary going on--excitable men pranced around the streets doing the old "Death to the Great Satan" dance. In the Middle East, you quickly learn the art of backing out of the room without catching the crazy guy's eye. The problem with Europe is that it's their room the crazy guys are now in.

Sound extreme? Ask the French if it sounds extreme. Ask the European nations that are gradually giving in on simple things. Mark points to a quote from Colonel Gaddafi: "There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe--without swords, without guns, without conquests. The fifty million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades." And it certainly appears that they are doing just that.

Reference the point that the British Muslim Council is upset that the patron saint of Britain is still St. George; a figure theyt believe is too militaristic. They also want Holocaust Day tossed because, according to them, the Holocaust is alleged, and does not equate to the Holocaust Israelis are committing now. They want him tossed in favor of St. Alban. In Linz, Austria Muslims are demanding that all female teachers wear headscarves, regardless if they are Muslim or not. Scandanavian countries are considering an inclusion of shari'a into their own laws. In France, gender-segrated bath houses were demanded, and delivered. Europe simply continues to give in.

Incrementalism is going to kill the West in this war because those that believe in this concept are willing to give away the store in an attempt to appease a demographic that has no intention of assimilating themselves into the "mainstream." They want the nation to assimilate to them. And despite what the Left here and abroad might think, this is not the way to go. I have no problem doing what we can to minimize anything that might offend a large group of people, but to bend over backwards for every minority in the nation is a bit much. Especially when the sort of appeasement that the Muslims would prefer is the sort that is strictly prohibited by our laws.

I know they believe in Islam. I know that they put all their hopes, faith, and dreams into it, but our laws strictyly prohibit state-endorsed religions. But that is what they want. They want a caliphate, which means that the nation must convert to Islam, or be conquered by the sword. We are witnessing it in Europe right now. These outbreaks of violence are marginal stepping-stones for what is to come. But, by the time Euroep realizes they have to stand up and fight back, it will be too late. They will have already given the store away in a self-deprecating way of avoiding the violent outbursts.

So, what is the world to do? The right answer is end the assimilation by the immigrants now, and force their assimilation to the nation they belong to. Or, take the drastic step of telling them they cannot emigrate there. It is tough. It is not politcally-correct. But such a mindset has swept through Europe, and it is slowly encroaching onto our shores--evidenced by similar patterns of appeasement in the Great White North of Canada. We are, luckily, not ready to dive into the pool of societal suicide. Yes, we have a few in this nation (the whole of CAIR, for example) that wants Muslims treated with respect. They are already. No one is locking them up. No one believes that every Muslim is a terrorists. We did far worse to the Japanese Americans, German Americans, and Italian Americans during World War II than we have to the Muslims in this war. And they are complaining that they are being mistreated.

Cry me a river. Build a bridge, and get over it already.

Thomas and I have remarked in the past that we have some friends that are Muslim. They are some of the nicest people to talk with, and they have admitted that they dislike how their brethren abroad act when things such as the Danish cartoon controversy emerges. One in particularstated that when Muslims turn violent over the most minor slight, they justify the world's opinion of them being devoted to violence. Sounds circular, but it is true. When the West saw the outbreak of rage over the cartoons, they clicked their tongues and said "See? What do you expect from these people. They only know violence."

And it is that threat that is keeping Europe on it's slow decline towards Islamification. Anything to maintain the status quo. The problem is they will not have that long if they allow their countries to be taken from them. Those that will not convert will be killed. Those deemed inferior--the elderly and women, especially--will either be killed, or subjugated at the end of a crop or cane or stick, or whatever the enforcers of shari'a use. For a good example of what might occur in Europe, pick up another book: Robert Ferrigno's chilling look at an Islamic America should be the primer we look at when it comes to Europe. They are not far off from this sort of fictional alternate history. A decade, maybe two, is what Mark predicts, before the keys to europe will reside int he hands of the Islamicists.

the writing is on the wall, and we have a front-row seat to what appeasement means for the West. It is violent subjugation, and brought about by the incremental removal of a nation's laws in favor of the shari'a-driven caliphate that our enemies desire. For the West, the time is now to take a stand, and end this insidious coup. But I doubt that many of our old allies have the backbone to take that stand.

Marcie

ADDENDUM: Dan Riehl weighs in on the subject, as well, and he does not see things going well in Europe, either.
