Taking Religious Tenets A Bit Too Far

As if we had another reason to question the crazy mullahs out of Tehran, Captain's Quarters offers another reason. It seems that the Islam preached by Ayatollah Ali Khameini has guidelines for masturbation during Ramadan, and no, as you'll read, neither of us are making this up:

Deliberate masturbation during the month of Ramadan renders a fast invalid, Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Khameini has ruled.

Khameini, who is Iran's most powerful political and religious figure, was asked on his
website : "If somebody masturbates during the month of Ramadan but without any discharge, is his fasting invalidated?"

"If he do not intend masturbation and discharging semen and nothing is discharged, his fasting is correct even though he has done a ḥarām (forbidden) act. But, if he intends masturbation or he knows that he usually discharges semen by this process and semen really comes out, it is a ḥaram intentional breaking fasting," the Iranian leader said, posting the reply on his website.

Another reader asked: "Once in the holy month of Ramadan, I forgot to brush my teeth, and some tiny bits of food remained in my mouth. I swallowed the bits unintentionally. Do I have to perform the qada (repent) for that day's fast?"

"If you did not know that some bits of food remained between the teeth, or you did not know that they would reach the throat, and they were swallowed unknowingly and unintentionally, then you are not liable to make (repent) of the fast," said Khameini.

I know that it's not fair to make fun of someone else's religion. What one person believes is sacred to them. However, I find it utterly ridiculous that they have rules regarding masturbation during the holy month of Ramadan. If there's discharge it's a no-no, but if there's not, then you're okay. (At least until the blue-b**ls sets in.) This is just as ludicrous as when the Catholic Church was telling people that using a condom or a diaphragm was considered a sin. This is also why America isn't the theocracy the liberals think it is.

This is a fine example of a theocracy, in Iran, where religious law trumps all except the mullah's personal word. Is that what we want to see? A nmation that controls even the most basic aspects of life like this? What if someone in Iran is found to masturbate repeatedly during Ramadan. Instead of stoning them to death, will they simply chop off the man's penis? Or can the men be the only ones allowed to do this, and women can't? I know that these questions might be uncomfortable for some (and to all of our readers, we could care less what you do in the privacy of your own home; if you feel the need several times a day, by all means go right ahead) but this shows the absurdity of their rules. I don't mean that to be insulting (all you Islamicists out there put your beheading knives away), but to have "semi-set rules" regarding masturbation is a bit much.
