Nancy Pelosi Endorses John Murtha

And so it begins. I am not kidding with the subject of this post, and with this endorsement reported by the WaPo it shows America that the Democrats do not understand the gravity of the situation for the nation. Furthermore, this sends a message that should ring loud and clear for the nation. The Democrats are poised to turn Iraq into another Vietnam.

House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) yesterday as the next House majority leader, thereby stepping into a contentious intraparty fight between Murtha and her current deputy, Maryland's Steny H. Hoyer.

The unexpected move signaled the sizable value Pelosi gives to personal loyalty and personality preferences. Hoyer competed with her in 2001 for the post of House minority whip, while Murtha managed her winning campaign. Pelosi has also all but decided she will not name the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee,
Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) to chair that panel next year, a decision pregnant with personal animus.

Pelosi had been outspoken about her frustration with Murtha's declaration that he would challenge Hoyer, currently the House minority whip, for the majority leader post long before Democrats had secured the majority. Many believed she would remain on the sidelines, just as Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) did earlier this year when three Republicans vied for the post of House majority leader.

But in her first real decision as the incoming speaker, Pelosi said she was swayed by Murtha's early stance for a withdrawal of
U.S. forces from Iraq. Her letter of endorsement yesterday made clear that she sees Iraq as the central issue of the next Congress and that she believes a decorated Marine combat veteran at the helm of the House caucus would provide Democrats ammunition in their fight against congressional Republicans and President Bush on the issue.

The idea that Murtha would be perfect for the majority leader's position is laughable. This man has insulted and demeaned our troops almost as much as John Kerry has, and he clearly has no clue about the war with his calls for withdrawal. I do hope those Repuiblicans who decided to stay home and teach the GOP a lesson are paying attention. The Democrats WILL move forward with a withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Such a move will be like Saigon, 1975 all over again.

Only this time it will not be Communists flooding over the border to topple the government. It will be blood-thirsty Islamofascist jihadis. And the withdrawal will also pave the way for Moqtada al-Sadr to basically hand Iraq over to the Iranians, allowing them to control a great deal of the oil reserves in the region. That will play directly into Iran's hands as Ahmadinejad has said that Iran is prepared to use their oil as a weapon against the West.

The removal of Jane Harman from the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee was to be expected. After the flap over one of her staffers leaking reports to the media, Ms. Harman should have seen the writing on the wall. Getting caught is an inexcusable offense to the Democrats, unless you are William Jefferson.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is beginning. The Democrats have big plans for their next two years in power. And the nation should be asking one simple question:

How long will it take us to undo two years worth of mistake after mistake from the Democrats?

They will withdraw troops from Iraq. They will not extend the tax cuts, which will kill the booming economy we have now. And we, at The Asylum, fully expect them to push for hearings regarding some imagined misconduct of the administration. Yesterday, Sabrina pointed out that Patrick Leahy is going to go back over the Military Commissions Act to give our enemies what was denied them in the first place--habeas corpus rights.

Let us hope and pray that the president did not lose his veto pen. He is going to need it for the next two years.

Marcie
