Can Someone Please Duct Tape Jimmy's Mouth Shut

We knew this was coming. You could just smell the stench in the room. As if it weren't bad enough that Hamas won the election for the Palestinian Authority, our favorite former president--"you know him, you love him"--weighed in on the election.

A day after Hamas swept to an upset victory in the Palestinian parliamentary elections, former US President Jimmy Carter on Thursday said that Wednesday’s voting had been orderly and fair.

“The elections were completely honest, completely fair, completely safe and without violence,” the former president said.

Carter, who led an 85-member international observer team from around the world organized by the ‘National Democratic Institute’ in partnership with ‘The Carter Center,’ urged the international community to directly or indirectly fund the new Palestinian Government even though it will be led by an internationally-declared foreign terror organization.

“The Palestinian Government is destitute, and in desperate financial straits. I hope that support for the new government will be forthcoming,” Carter said at a Jerusalem press conference.

He added that if international law barred donor countries from directly funding a Hamas-led government than the US and the EU should bypass the Palestinian Authority and provide the “much-needed” money to the Palestinians via non-governmental channels such as UN agencies.

Oh yeah, like they've such a great job with that in the past. Evidently Jimmy forgot about the UN's Oil-For-Food scandal. Or maybe he's just reading too much of the Ol' Gray Lady, and her sister cage-liner on the West coast.

Regardless of the government, I would hope that potential donors find alternative means to be generous to the Palestinian people [even] if the donor decides to bypass the Palestinian government completely,” Carter said, stressing that his main concern was to avert the “suffering” of the Palestinian people, which he said could lead to a new cycle of violence.

Yes, yes. Send the people money. Nevermind the fact that most of that money will end up in Hamas' pocket one way or another.

He noted that the heavily funded Palestinian Government would run out of money at the end of next month.

LOL. I just got a flash of a movie in my head. From Star Trek VI--

Spock: Jim, they are dying. (in reference to the Klingon's near-Soviet-like end)
Kirk: Let them die.

Here, here. The government will collapse under the weight of Hamas soon enough. Will it get violent there? Most assuredly. There is little to prevent that. The Palestinian people are about to learn the lesson of "you reap what you sow," and the burden of carrying Hamas will be a heavy one, indeed. But I have a simple question for former President Carter:

What about those laws preventing the monetary support of terrorist regimes? Hamas is a terrorist organization, and we know that they despise the Jews and Israel. So, because they haven't abided by a single truce the PA established with the Israelis, how long before they strike, and legitimize under under the auspice of the new Hamas leadership.

Before Hamas decides to do this they should keep two very important things about this point in history:

First, Israel is going to have elections sometime in March. Sharon is obviously out. Olmert was about as liked as Sharon was. This opens the door for Bibi Netanyahu. And Netanyahu doesn't screw around. He will defend Israel, whether it be from the Hamas-enabling Iranians, or from the Palestinians.

Second, as the Palestinians have their "state," Hamas might want to remember that Israel can declare war on them if the attacks continue. And let's face it, when it comes to the enemies of Israel, they've got a bang-up record in going head-to-head with them. Thus far, they haven't one a single war.

This could get ugly.

But Carter needs to shut up and butt out. He's not the president anymore. He's a lowly little man who puffs himself up with these moonbat, fringe Left-wing groups. No one takes this man serious anymore, unless you're wearing a tin-foil hat. And we'd be apt to remember that he received that vaunted Nobel Peace Prize through slamming America; the number one prerequisite for obtaining such a prize. And let's not forget Carter's great job in handling foreign policy; his worst gaffe put this nation through 444 painful days.

When I want Jimmy Carter's comments or advice regarding foreign policy, I'll call up an on-the-ground expert, have him brief Carter, and then Carter can come talk to me.
