The Folly Of John Kerry And His Call For A Filibuster

I figured that while I had a couple minutes of free time before my next meeting, I'd weigh in a bit on the hilarious story from CNN that John Kerry is calling for a filibuster on Judge Samuel Alito.

Sen. John Kerry has decided to support a filibuster to block the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, CNN's Congressional Correspondent Ed Henry reported Thursday.

Kerry, in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum, was marshaling support in phone calls during the day, Henry said.

He announced his decision Wednesday to a group of Democratic senators, urging they join him, Henry said. Kerry also has the support of his fellow Massachusetts senator, Democrat Edward Kennedy.

Some senior Democrats said they are worried that the move could backfire.

Republicans need 60 votes to overturn a filibuster.

Senior White House officials said the move makes the Democrats look bad, and Republicans already have enough votes to overcome any filibuster attempt.

Has Sen. Kerry missed the vote count, thus far? Does he know how close the "yes" votes are to the 60 needed to snap a filibuster? Is he aware that the GOP is going to push forward the Constitutional Option should a filibuster be invoked, and thet the Gang of 14 won't be supporting a filibuster? There aren't enough of the Gang of 14 unified to locate "extraordinary circumstances" on Judge Alito.

Personally, I think this is pandering on Sen. Kerry's part to the extremist special interest groups that are caterwauling that the Democrats aren't doing enough to stop Judge Alito. What can be said by them, or by him, that can stop Judge Alito? The allegations have been leveled, and debunked. The Democrat's feeble efforts to derail Judge Alito in the hearings looked more like a Three Stooges routine than anything else. Thomas calls them the "Party of Clouseau," and for good reason; Kerry and company have no clue.

And it's wonderful that he has the support from Sen. Kennedy--a man truly made to look like a fool in the hearings, especially after Sen. Specter slammed the door on him over his demanded subpoena of CAP (Concerned Alumni or Princeton) records. Unless the Democrats can find something substantive on Judge Alito (of which there is none) he will pass, and be sworn in next week, sending Justice O'Connor into well-deserved, and long-desired, retirement.

This move by Sen. Kerry isn't a smart one. As a matter of fact, the only people he is appealing to are the nuts from the Left that believe that fools like Michael Moore and Howard Dean are gods. They aren't. They're men, and even rather inept at that, as well.
